Vet Costs! what does your vet charge for puppy checks.
 

Just curious as to how your vet charges.

I took Harlie and Hallie in for well puppy checks and shots. And Chachi for shots. The total bill for all three. $96.73. My vet, evidently does not charge for an Office visit if they get shots. For all thre, he listened to heart and lungs, checked ears and eyes and mouths. And they each got one shot. My total will was 96.73

Ollie could not get her shots because she might be pregnant, he said it would be $32.00 for an office call for him to check her over and feel for puppies, and $57 if I wanted her x-rayed.

I have heard others mentiion like $200 for check ups and shot5s for their puppies.

Just wondering how much everyone else pays?

Sounds like you got a deal. Chewie's first trip to the vet cost me $80, but that included heartworm and flea prevention in addition to the normal check up and shots. His next visit was $40, and I'll be forking out $$ again this week for shots. I don't think it's bad considering the vet costs incurred for my previous larger dogs.

That doesn't sound bad if it included the heartworm test. that test is expensive. It's cheaper to just give them the meds. flea prevention is a lot more expensive than heartworm

When I took Bengi for his puppy checks & shots it costed me about $100 each visit. He charged for 1/2 price visit (because of the shots), shots, deworming, fecal, and maybe something else.

I is $200 for a puppy package with all the shots and office visits. Now I didnt think that was bad. Only now that they are adults they still want to charge $200 for shots wellness bloodwork and heartworm test. When I took my two in it was going to be $400 for annual visits. My Husband about had a cow and told them we would pay for the shots only. That was $200 for them both

I took my boys in Nov for their 1 year exam and last round of vacs. Fletcher had a slight infection that needed antibiotics from clipper burn from being groomed. In total, the bill was $356.00!! :eek: YUP!! Vets up here are outrageous!!! They both got 2 vacs, and just a check up. Without the meds for fletch it was $260.00!!

When I took Theresa and Teddy in, it was around 60 for the first 2 rounds of shots. (which was about 120 since I got them done around the same time) But for some reason I can't figure out, the last round of shots totaled 109.00 for Teddy and 107.00 for Theresa. I dunno if thats expensive.. but January was a tough month for me. Thank goodness I don't have any bills except my cell phone! (better yet.. thank goodness my parents and grandparents are supporting me while I finish up undergrad)

shots at one vets office here are about $20 per set the other is more plus a office visit fee of $25

That is great. Everytime my 3 furballs go in it's 48 dollars office visit for EACH.....plus shots etc :(

Dang you are lucky because my last vet visit for Daisy was $200.00 it was $35.00 for office visit $35.00 for poop sample and the rest in shots it's so expensive here

I took Max & Misha in. Misha got a 3 year rabies only. Max got his second set of shots. They didn't even do a stool sample. It was over $200.
I also got 6 months of revolution, & tylan. So I paid about the same.

Gosh, I will never complain about the cost of my vet again, and the next time my hubby complains, I will show him this thread :D For the first three sets of shots it's $30 each time. The fourth set of shots if $45, but it includes the rabies (required here in Florida). Each one also includes a well puppy exam and worming. A fecal exam (had to have one for Summerlin) was $10.50. When they said she had scabies, they told me I could bring her in for each dip and it would be $20 each of the four dips, or I could buy the dip for $15 and do all four myself. (That's the option I chose.) Heartworm prevention is $17 for six months worth. After reading all these other posts, I don't have anything to complain about.... :)

Some of you guys are getting a real bargain.
Buddy goes in May for his yearly and I will get a bill for at least
$200.00 . It is $65.00 to walk in the door, $28.00 for stool exam,
plus whatever shots he gets. Heart worm test is always done even
though he is on Heartworm. They will not give me a new prescription
for it unless he is tested. Before you know it,kiss $200.00 good by.

I got the puppy plan for bandit and it was like $180.
Hes going Friday for the third set of shots..

I take my Yorkies (my own and fosters alike) to the best vet I found in my area, but my bills are still affordable. A regular checkup is $39. Vaccines are about $14 each on regular days, but only $7 on Tuesdays and Saturdays because they hold shot clinics then. Fecal tests are about $13 most days and $8 on shot clinic days. For all other procedures I pay the regular rate for my own Yorkies, but they give me huge discounts for the fosters. They're absolutely wonderful.

my vet doesnt charge for shots or well puppy checks either. or to recheck ears and get them clean.

for his well puppy check is 50 dollars but that included cleaning his ears and the flea, ticks, and heartworm medicine and earmites medicine!(along with the original puppy check)

shots were 23 dollars.

We have a great vet. She doesn't seem to charge for a 'visit'. We just pay for the service we need. If Punkin needs shots - that's all we pay. When she had ear problems we only paid for the drops and sedation they did to clean her ears. I am shocked (in a gooe way) when we pay the bill. Three visits, sedation (and a full day at the clinic for Punkin) and the container of ear drops was $56 (Canadian). Can't beat that. She is so kind and caring. Now the wait to get in to see her is the problem. You usually have to wait at least an hour sometimes 2 as she never turns anyone away and many people stop in for an emergency so she gets behind schedule.

An elderly lady I knew had a sick cat - our vet took the cat and had her for three weeks trying to diagnose the problem. In the end the cat needed surgery and medication etc. The bill was $200 in total for everything and the lady can pay as she can afford to over time since she is on a very small pension.

my pups prevention medicine was a 3 in one. they put on his neck

its fleas, ticks, and heartworm all in one)

so all i have payed in vet bills is

50 dollars for well puppy check(lungs, heart, blah blah lol) including the stool exam, ear cleanings, earmite medicine, the 3 in one prevention

then i had to go back to get his ears done again 15.00
then next week again 15.00
( they wanted to clean them and check to see the progress on the earmites)

and then 23.00 for his second shots(breeder gave 1st), and some more prevention medicine 3 in one.

103.00 (over a months periods almost)

but if he wouldnt have had earmines is would have been way less!

My vet never ever charges for an office visit - he only charges for what he does; shots, fecal exam etc. It is always very inexpensive. If I take one of them in and there is nothing wrong or nothing to do, he doesn't charge anything.

He kept my old schnauzer who went into renal failure for 3 days till my daughter could get hold of me (I was on vacation - out of cell service range) and I could call the vet back. My sweet old baby was in renal failure. The vet bathed him and shaved his hind end (my baby was staying with my mom and got diarrhea and my mom didn't know it - she's old and her eyesight is not very good - plus he had black fur and he was laying out in the yard - mom thought he was just laying in the sun getting warm). Anyway the vet cleaned him up, kept him on IV's for 3 days, gave him pain meds, and then when I called him, we decided to go a head and send him to the rainbow bridge - we already had talked about this possibility should something happen while I was gone. He put him to sleep, sent him to the crematory and then received him back and when I went to pick up his ashes, he charged me $100. I nearly FELL OVER!

I am so grateful to have a vet like him!

Is the puppy plan the same thing as Pet Insurance...Wonder what an annual
checkup cost with insurance. My Vet usually charges around $200.00 with the majority of the charge being for bloodwork..

Here is the next question. Why do the vets require a stool sample as part of a routine check. I never take one in unless I suspect worms.

Think about it this way. You take them in once a year for a check, what if they pick up worms a month after their check. If there is no indication of worms I don't see a need for a stool sample. I also don't see a need to do the expensive heart worm test if you have had them on heartworm meds.

I believe those are things they do just to run the bill up. They wanted to do a heartworm test on Chachi and I said no. He was on heartworm meds, he doesn't need the test.

My vet offers a puppy package with all shots, deworming, unlimited fecal tests and unlimited office visits for up to one year of age for a flat fee of about $200 as I recall. Given that we need to have wellness checks and fecals before every new puppy school class (and we are on number 3) it has been a real deal. The only thing it does not cover is spay/neuter and meds.

I never spend more than $40 or so for a vet visit with shots. I just had Lola in the other day for an eye infection and they charged me $19 for the exam and eye stain, then the meds I had to take home for her were about $20. Our vet has always been very, very reasonable.

No its just a package deal, it basically covers the 4 sets of shots, (it would cost a little more if i got him nutered) then i got a discount on the chip since i purchase the package the chip was only $28 instead of $40.

My visits are generally free. ((I've been lucky so far too though!!! Haven't had any sickness or problems) I actually don't think I've had to pay for anything other than medicine and shots... :D With all 3 kiddos...

He's actually been my dads vet for the farm for awhile... So he's good to me. He's been my vet ever since I got Chloe like 3 years ago. I think the only things other than shots and medicine I've paid for is getting Chloe fixed. I think that was like $60 and they kept her overnight.

But believe me, we've paid for it in everything we've bought and are still buying for the cattle... Not to mention paying for their services, now thats expensive!

My vet offers a puppy package that includes all the shots they need and a fecal check and 15% off spay or neuter. The package is $115.00. They get a check over by the dr. and any shots needed until they are all protected. I thought it was a pretty good deal.
