Harlie and Hallie go to the vet I just got back from the vet, the girls got a clean bill of health. But I swear the receptionist is one of the rudist people I have ever met. first of all, I think I pissed her off when I said I did not want a heart worm test done on Chachi. we live in the midwest, there is very little heartworm here. He was on heartguard during the summer. I have never had any other dog I ever owned on heart worm meds, and have never had one get heartworm. So anyway she seemed pissed about that. Then she wanted to weigh them. I asked if she had some paper or something to put on the scale to protect them. She said I can clean it with bleach, I said thank you that would be nice. Shouldn't that be common p[ractice? the tell yhou not to let your puppies down fanywhere where other dogs have been until they have had all their shots, yet they want you to sit them on a scale where most likely sick dogs have been. it is a vets office, people bring in sick animals. DUH!!! So, I take the puppies out of their crate and she weighs them, takes us to a room and says the Dr will be in in just a few minutes. Now I don't take my puppies to the vet to get OHHHHHhds and AHsssssss, but I have never had a puppy there where they didn't comment on them. I don't care what the breed or size, puppies are cute, everyones tells them they are cute. Not this Chick. She never made one comment about them. IMO she should not be working in a vets office. |
I wouldnt wory about it. It sounds like that girl was rude and i agree with you I wont get the heartworm test done either and it pisses My vet off. It is expensive and unnecessary they have been on heartworm preventative so I know they dont have heartworm. It is just something the vet does every annual visit. Anyway since I wont have it done they wont sell me heartworm preventative so I just get it online. |

We went to one vet once that wouldn't sell us the frontline unless we brought them in for shots and checkups. How dumb is that? don't they know we cfan get them elsewhere? |
We do have heartworm in the midwest. My vet suggested I keep my dogs on heartguard year round, that way they don't need to be tested each March. He thinks it's too hard on little dogs as they don't have much blood to lose, lol! I would be scared living in Iowa and not having my dogs on heartworm prevention. Martha :aimeeyork |

Well, I'm not taking any chances. My friends lost a dog to heartworm and it was very sad. If my vet recommends keeping them on heartguard all year then thats what I'm going to do, I trust him to give me good advice. |
I can understand not wanting to do the test but I disagree that there is not that much heartworm in the midwest. My vet has a poster up that she gets each year showing the numbers of victims and in what areas they are in. Surprisingly enough Chicago has more that the suburbs. That has to be because there are a lot more disadvantage people within the city limits and they can barely purchase everything the need for themselves let alone their dogs. Another reason I disagree is because we had a dog come to us already infected. It was very expensive to treat and he was miserable. I'm not happy about it and I worry about it but I will have Adie on meds from April to December and I will have her tested just to be on the safe side just like the other two pooches in the family. Just my thoughts. |

I am sorry that she was so rude to you....maybe she just hates her job. That's no excuse for her being rude, but it would make a difference in her attitude. You don't need her to tell you how cute the girls are....you already know that they are BEAUTIFUL!!! :) Tammy |
