Shipping vs. Pick-Up Most of the breeders I've been talking with are not in driving range. I would either have to either fly to pick up my pup or have the breeder ship. One breeder actually said that it is less stressful for the dog to ship it on a direct flight vs. carrying the pup through the airport while dealing with the passenger process of check-in, security and so on... I am very nervous about the idea of shipping and would be grateful if you would share your experiences with me. Finally, are some airlines more dog friendly than others? Thanks, Lizzie- |

Thanks. Don't know how I missed it! Lizzie- |
My opinion is if you can go pick-up the puppy, do it. That way you get to meet the breeder. It will be easier on you and the puppy to go inside the cabin, rather than the puppy fly cargo. |
I flew and picked up my baby and I am so glad I did. I got to meet Linda and that was very special for me and my baby! |
pick up if possible. |
i had my baby shipped to me and i was very happy |

I've done it both ways and I have to say that while Muffin came shipped to me healthy and happy, I really enjoyed the experience of going to get CoCo and having the time to bond with her on the airplane. I was lucky enough to have her lay on my chest during the flight (I had my jacket over her) and she just snuggled close and was as good as gold. It gave us the opportunity to get to know one another before she had came home to Muffin, Biscuit and Daddy. But best of all, I got to meet the breeder, Pam Hinkle, and I now consider her one of my friends. If you can go get the puppy, go get it. It's worth it!:D |
I flew to pick up Angel. It was really great to get to meet Mary and her son. Kirk was in the hospital recovering from by-pass surgery - but he still kept in contact with me!! I did not have a direct flight home as it was not an option. But on the first (& longer) flight, there were so few folks on the plane that Angel was out of the carrier and in my lap the whole time. I also cuddled her lots while in the airport. I don't feel this was a stressful environment for her at all and it gave us some time to bond. I would highly recommend going to get your baby if at all possible. |
