Not So Lucky Today I decided to call up some breeders in my area. The first breeder in Middleburg,Fl said that her female yorkies cost 1000 and leave at 12wks. The second breeder in Jacksonville,Fl wasn't home. And the third breeder was in Bell,Fl which is south of Gainsville,Fl said that her female yorkies cost 600 and registered. It hard to find a good yorkie breeder. Which one should I go with? |
Yorkies Wolfy, You should choose which one you feel most comfortable with. There is no harm in meeting, talking, and seeing a pup from them all. Don't feel obligated to buy just because you went for a visit. On another note, speaking from experience, make sure to ask if they are AKC registered, and not just registered, because some breeders say their pups are registered and advertise them as registered, and then when you get there and ask for the papers, they are really CKC registered or something else. Some people don't even notice this until they get home with the pups. It doesn't matter what their registration is if you are getting a pet, my two are CKC registered, but you should know what you are buying. |
Wollfy i completely agree with Tarawood also you might want to ask for references that have bought a yorkie from the breeder and also a vet reference also it is a good thing to go see the pups since you will be buying from your area to see what environment they live in. Also make a list of questions that you would like to know about the pups before ever visting or making your choice of which breeder to buy from. |
Make yourself a check list with the questions you have and the stipulations that you have. On top of paper list each of the breeders you are considering and then compare them against each other. Breeder A Breeder B Breeder C Cost registered socialization etc. etc. After you compile all your info, I think you will know which one you want to go with. Wolfy, I hear everyone advising that if you are looking for a puppy to go see them. I find that it's a very good idea, but be prepared to fall in love with one or more of them before you leave. I went twice JUST TO LOOK, and left both times with a puppy. So, be strong girl, stiffen your backbone, harden your heart before you go. And that won't be enough either. lol Good luck. Sylvia |
New Puppies Hello...I also live in the Middleburg, Fl. area...and the other posts are correct..You must be patient to get the type yorkie you deserve. I raise them also, but have no puppies at the time. Mine are AKC registered and live in my home. You should ask to see the parents to look at the size (dosen't always determine your puppies' size later on, can go back three generations) and get a history of the grandparents and so on...A good breeder will spend time with you and not just try to sell you a puppy. You see, a good person will make sure their puppy is going to the right place and will ask you questions! I interview people to make sure my pups are going to good homes and sometimes this takes several weeks to screen out the bad apples. A good indicator with one of the breeders is that they are keeping the puppies for 12 weeks. Keep your antennas up and don't be hasty, you'll find what you're looking for. I always ask the age of the children in the household because small children are hard on puppies and yorkies are pretty small. This question always offends someone and I've even been accused of suggesting that children are monsters. I don't consider children monsters, just children. I've raised three children and I don't care what people say. If your child was pulling on a dogs ear or his tail and the dog bit the child...who do you correct? You should be responsible for what you create and follow it up throughout it's lifetime. So, good luck and you can write me if you like. |
