Need your help and dont know where to post??

I need your help to help another. My neice's future FIL bought her and himself 2 yorkie pups (diff litters)(2-3 lbs now at 4 mo.) in California. My neices pup is just fine but his pup died about a month ago(they both came with papers). The vet fully supports him and will do whatever to help him. The pup died due to pneomonia (stared with a cough) and was only 4 mo. old after a week of IVs and all atempts to save her life. Now here is where I need your help. This poor man has cancer and is older, he bought the pups from a breeder in CA he found in his local paper. This so called breeder does not answer his phone and put another ad in the paper to sell more pups. (The FIL paid $1,200 for ea pup and gave my neice hers as a gift-goes to show how kind he is) He has his departed baby in his freezer bc he wants to take action but does not know what to do. I feel so bad for this poor man and want to help him but dont know what to tell him to help. Can anyone out there tell me what he should do so I can relay the information back to him? It would be so appreciated. He lost his wife and is all alone and is a very kind man. I dont know what kind of cancer he has but I know he loved his yorkie and is at a loss as to what to do. I think he has frozen his baby to have as evidence. I dont know the man but just wanted to help if I can. If he intends to prove the dog was ill, then he should have taken it to a vet -- not put it in his freezer :(

I think the best thing he can do would be to get a vet to do an autopsy (or two vets, one as a witness just in case) to document the cause of death. He can keep all the documents and see what he can do with those. I also think the puppy should get a decent burial or cremation as soon as possible.
I really cannot say anything about the getting sick part because there isn't enough info. Was the puppy sick all along? Did the puppy get all the shots in time? Was he exposed to other dogs at all? Tough situation. But, the poor frozen dog will not help his case. Vet documents will.

He needs to get the puppy out of his freezer and give it a proper burial. But before that he needs to take the dog to the vet to get an autopsy done to see what the cause of death was, ect.

I'm sorry, I'm just cringing over here thinking of knowing that there is a dead frozen puppy in someones freezer all based upon getting the money back. =(

If he has a vet's statement that the puppy died of pneumonia that is all he will need to take action. For his own mental health he needs to bury the dog. Keeping it in the freezer has to be horrible for his mental state.

How long did he have the puppy before it got sick? did it have it vet checked right after he got it?

If it was healthy when he got it and did not develope pneumonia for a week or more after he had it in his care, then I doubt that there is any recourse.

If it was sick right away, then that is different story. but he should have contacted the breeder immediately.

I feel very sorry for him, maybe his family can help him get a new one, or maybe he isn't even well enough to care for a puppy.

Yes -I agree with you all about the pup and the freezer part. That is why I posted this. I think it has to do with attachment to the dog. It has NOTHING to do with getting his money back. He would probably be happier with another pup-he is just upset that this breeder gave him a sick dog. Yes the vet did do an autopsy and like I previously stated his vet is 100% behind him and wants him to sue. The question i guess is can he sue or what should he do? I think he has the paperwork to show the pup was sick. Started with kennal cough? He had taken the dog to the vet in the very beginning and continously was properly caring for the dog. I really dont have all the information but I do know that he was a good doggie parent. This breeder apparently does not stand behind their pups and when he has called and even visited the breeders place of business they do not answer the door. So that tells me they are a bad actor and are trying to get away with something. Is there anything he can do with the paperwork to prove the dog was a sick dog?

Tell him if he gets another puppy, make sure he sees the puppy first, gets Vet. records stating the puppy was checked and found to be in good health, and have the breeder do a bile acid test on the pup. Also make sure he gets a contract from the breeder guaranteeing the pup for at least the first six months, and that they will buy the pup back if they do not want to keep it.

If they did not give him a health guarantee I don't know what he can do. I've never heard of anyone selling a dog without giving you 48 hours to get them checked by a vet.

He can always file a small claim against them but if they don't show up in court there isn't much you can do. He could get a judgement, but then still end up not getting the money.

Sometimes things like this are just live and learn. When buying live animals, it is very important that you know who you are dealing with.

I think you are absolutely right. I don't think this poor man knew what he was doing when he bought the dogs-I mean he did pay top dollar they were $1,200 each. I really don't think the money is the issue-I think he has plenty of money bc he spoils my niece and her daughter rotten. My niece has always wanted a yorkie and now she has a 3 yr old who the FIL adores-so this dear father paid for his son's flight to CA, they went and picked up the dogs, he paid for his son and the dog-Abby (for my niece)return trip home and for the cost of the dog. I will talk to her tomorrow and get more information. I was just trying to help and see if he had any recourse action. I think they did have the dogs checked by the vet as soon as they got them. thanks for listening:)

:( So sorry that you friend have to go through that. Have you got the name of the bredder yet, because I found one here in california that I'm interested to get her pup and she wants $1200.00 too, so if she is the same I can confront her if you want.:mad:

That is so kind of you-have not been able to get a hold of my niece-she took the kids to the zoo but will talk with her tomorrow and let you know what I find out:)
