Veterinary Pet Insurance - Review For anyone considering pet insurance, I just wanted to give a review of my first experience with VPI. Howie got sick after my mother fed him a large handful of yucky steak. He was vomitting and having diarrhea for 3 days. I finally took him to the vet and the bill was $222. Howie's only a year old and I've had insurance for him basically since I got him. It's $20/month. I really wasn't expecting to get anything back from the insurance but.... I got a check yesterday for $150.30!!! YAY! It's nice to know that the insurance really does help out if god forbid something really expensive went wrong! |

Most everything i have heard on pet insurance is, you are better off to put your $20 a month in the cookuie jar, and then you'll have money if you need it. Just another point of view. Not meant to be insulting or mean. |
I had VPI and didn't like it but I'm glad you are reaping the benefits. I didn't like VPI because: They for one didn't cover everything and it got to be a hassle to send in claims after having to front the money and then waiting for the check. On top of that they never paid for all of it. I like my Vet's plan better. You pay once a month and then only pay a co-pay for every single routine visit, surgery, etc. It works more like people insurance. |
I know that I'm not dilligent enough to put away $20/month in case of an emergency. I like knowing that if god forbid he gets really sick I have a back-up plan. |

If it gives you a feeling of security then it's worth it. At least your baby was taken care of when he needed it and that's what is important. |
I have it and with Cali being so sick early on I am way ahead on the premium vs payment. With Pixie I hopefully won't need it much but with 3 dogs anything can happen and I preer to be covered in case. |

Anyways, whatever works for everyone is different. |
well i'm looking for pet Insur. but i can't find one that's any good. I've heard so many bad things about VIP. so i'm glad that your got some money back:) |
I also have pet insurance, and I wouldn't be without it. This claim was not exceptionally large, but it could have been. Putting 20 dollars a month away would be great if you never have a large claim; but with these little babies the claims can be really large. Congradulations on being prepared, and thank God your baby is fine.:) :) |

Pet Insurance Who did you get your pet insurance through? I have heard about this, but don't know who is a carrier. Any advice?:aimeeyork |
Plus, I heard they don't cover LP, and with our babies, that's a pretty big deal. |
i heard pet insurance doesnt cover alot of things and is a waste of money so i took out a credit card just for martini's vet bills and clothes, etc...i rather pay off a credit card then give money for something that wont even cover much...ive heard from numerous people that its not worth it |

Hhhmmmm, sounds just like real insurance! I work in medical billing and sometimes it is just a total game! |
I have VPI for my boy. I am planning to also insure our new girl, Mochi. I also don't like VPI. Kimchee got bitten by another dog in Aug 2006, we spent about $300 and of course, I submitted the claim. Guess what....I got a check of about $200 after ONE FULL YEAR. Well, at least I got some money back. Anyone knows of any pet insurance company which also insure LP? |

A year??? See, it's all a game for the insurance companies to hold onto the $$ and collect interest, and come up with any and every excuse to not pay. |
yeah, actually I totally forgot about it and thought they probably did not approve my claim. Quote:

my friend has a king charles spaniel. Rusty has been healthy for the most part other than recently getting sick. He had some sort of blood disorder....well VIP paid minimally on her claims (it was not pre-existing or on that list of no no's that they all have). She had to call and fight and then they finally paid out. Well she is up for renewal and they told her they won't be renewing her policy because it is now classified as a pre-existing condition. From what she was told when they renew your policy it's as though it's a new policy (I also read this online on a review) so technically what he has is now considered a problem. Rusty has some blood disorder that he developed that he almost needed a blood transfusion. He will now be on maintenance meds and need to see the vet serveral times a year....so guess what it's no longer profitable for them so SEE YA. Personally I didn't get any insurance. Instead I got Care Credit (www.carecredit.com). It's a credit card that gives you deferred interest of up to 4 years on bills (both human and vet) if it's over $299. Under that it's only like 11%. I thought that worked best for my situation. I can't see paying almost $400 to insure my dog and they are not covering enough stuff and there are so many hidden things that seem to pop up when it comes time for them to pay for your bills. Good luck on what you guys choose. |
This Is What I Wanna Know I Wanna Know About Preexisting Conditions Another Words With Bleus Surgery Could He Get Insurance Now? I Highly Doubt It... I Like Texas A&ms Program ... Whatever The Bill Is You Pay Half And The Other Is Paid Out Over A Period Of 6 Months I Like That! |

Their pre-existing conditions can cover so much. They want your vets records before they fully give the go ahead to cover you. So you might want to check. Personally I am keeping the $400 in my pocket and I will deal with things when they happen. |
No, they will not cover anything pre-existing. |
This is one I have been considering its ASPCA Pet health insurance. Not positive of what they cover. I have to look into it more. The web site is www.aspcapetinsurance.com or 1-866-861-9092. |
