Did you ADOPT/RESCUE a Yorkie? I looked for a long time to adopt or rescue a yorkie before I finally started looking for a breeder because I couldn't find one. I would love to hear your stories of yorkies that you adopted and how everything worked out. |
Bernie's a rescue! |
I've had three rescues and absolutely adored them all. Each had their own issues to overcome, but they were the best friends a girl could have. I would never hesitate to take in a rescue. It's just too bad some of these rescue organizations are so tough on prospective homes. |
I feel like I rescued Louie.....here's why I was looking for a yorkie for while myself but I couldnt convince my hubby that we needed another dog. We allready owned a bulldog. I had went into a lil bit of depression after I had my hysterectomy. I had to go to counseling and etc. My hubby came home one night and told me the great news that he thought it was what I needed to help make me happier. (he knows how much I love animals) So I started my search. I didn't know a lot about yorkies but enough or so I thought. A friend from work gave me this familys business card and I called and we talked for an hour. I was so happy cause they had a 9 1/2 week old male available so i rushed right over to see it. When I got there, I noticed that the kennel was down the street from their house. They had approx. 5 inside dogs that stayed inside their home. He took me to the kennel and I was shocked to what I saw. There was a pen of dogs, that were a mess, over crowded. I was still niave and didn't know what a puppy mill even was. I just knew that it looked cruel. Then when we got inside the kennel, there was this odor that about knocked me over. He had cages everywhere. He did have it all hooked up where the feces was cleaned up by going down a tube, so the dogs didn't lay in it. Dogs were running back and forth their cages, begging for me to open all the doors so they could run. I just saw it in their eyes. I wanted to cry. They didn't look all that bad as from videos I have seen on the net, but it looked bad enough. He showed me the puppy that we talked about on the phone. I seen sadness in his eyes. I had to get him out of there. When we left the kennel, we went back up to his house to sign papers, and the poor puppy was so nervous and shaking. He has had no interaction with people. He had never walked on grass before and didn't know what to do as soon as I put him down. it's been almost 2 years since I've brought him home, and he has been a wonderful dog. He is 13 lbs but he hasnt had any health issues and he has been thankful for me getting out of that environment. It shows in his eyes. |

You just described, to a T, my story about Buddy, except he was purchased from a private pet store. Even the weight is the same. Carol & Buddy |
I have had two rescues. The first one Duey has gone to the rainbow bridge but he was the sweetest little guy. Once he discovered that he was safe with us his little personality came shinning through. Now we have Icky. He is 2 1/2 and with in a few days were are just hooked on him. He did come with some health issues but that is ok with us. We will take care of that. He has been shoved around to several families probably b/c they didn't want to be bothered with all of that. I understand that he didn't even see a vet until he went to rescue. But he is all mine now. |
