These pups give so much love to you and are so cute, it's easy to be loving in return. The patience can be harder. A new puppy, no matter what breed, needs attention all the time. You have to remember they are leaving everything and everybody they know behind when they come home with you. You need to be consistent, especially with potty training. In our home, when we have a new pup and he has an accident in the house, it is usually our fault, not his. Small toy breeds cannot hold their bladder as long as larger dogs. When they're a pup it is even shorter, so it's up to you to make sure he/she gets out frequently to go potty. A good way to potty train a pup is to take him to one area of your yard and tell him to "Go potty", and then when he does, praise him like crazy! Keep going back to that same area and using those words, and before long he'll get the idea.
The other important thing to remember is it's not the initial cost of your puppy and his "things", but, the upkeep. Puppies need to see a vet and get their shots, they need heart worm medication and flea preventative, and emergencies do happen that we don't plan on. Make sure you have some money set aside to cover the unexpected things that come up.
I'm sure when you start the hunt for your new buddy there will be many here on YT to give you a hand and advice. You've already done the most important part in doing your research. Good for you! Good luck in your search and enjoy your puppy when you get him! Yorkies are the best! |
