Can Anyone Tell Me About The Eye Color When Light Flashes In Re To Coat Color

I think it was: If eyes reflect green/silky coat
If they reflect blue/cottony coat.
I don't know if it's true or not.
Buddy's eyes reflect emerald green and he does
have a silky coat.

Ninna's eyes reflect bright green and she is silky too! I didnt know there was an association??:)

I think:

Green/blue = silky
red/orannge= cotton

Puppies usually show blue

I've read about the eye color and we have tried and tried to check it using a flashlight. Taylor is 11 months old and is starting to feel very silky under what's left of his puppy coat. This morning my husband took a picture of him and then we saw it..... GREEN. It wasn't until later when I was looking at the picture that I noticed it.

Taylor is gorgeous!! My boy had fuzzy hair but he lost it............the new hair coming in is super silky.......but a very thin coat. :rolleyes:

layla's eyes are orange and we have a cottony coat :( horrible for mats. but the small curls are cute i'm hoping with the new food and suppliments i'm going to be giving her that we can help with the mats and hopefully make it more silky...

At least layla has a thick coat...........I dream of one :)

I think the ML will work for you. It has worked for Bobbi.........made his coat silky and slick :thumbup:

skoshi reflects blue but i dont know what that means lol and i dont know the difference between coats! sorry!

Hey Taylor --- is that a bully stick you have there. It sure is long. Where did your mommy get it. I eat mine so fast that my mommy stopped letting me have them.

Denali's eyes show up blue in some pictures and orange in others. What could that possibly mean and does anyone else's babies eyes do the same thing? Denali just always makes things so complicated:rolleyes: :D

Ok I'm not trying to be a killjoy, but is this theory for real? I'm not being a downer, just curious :)

I am not sure how the anatomy and absorption (or lack of) pigments in an eye would correlate to a different coat texture.

Are there any experienced breeders who know for sure? Thanks!

A good silk coat reflects green or shades of green. I had a male whose eyes reflected emerald green...so deep it was spooky.
The greens are a not all the same shade..
Ambers,yellow reds, reds are warm and I have never in nearly 40 yrs seen a warm eye color on a silk Yorkie...never seen a green eye flash on a cotton/soft/wool coat

PS..I had an eye specialist explain it to me once...

so, does that mean that coat type can be determined when the puppy still has its puppy coat; for example when going to see a puppy at 8 weeks or so, if you take a picture with a flash then look at the eyes will this show a future silky/cotton or is it completely unpredictable with pups?

From what I've researched, most puppies' eyes are usually blue until they get a bit older (not sure when exactly) and then their eye color reflection changes to green/red/yellow/etc.

Does this mean Thumper will have a silky coat? She was 3 months old when I took this picture, she is now 4 months old and her coat feels rough to me, except her head which is silky feeling.
