Girl or Boy Yorkies? So after reading tons and tons of articles online, I am still trying to figure out the characteristic and physical differences between girl and boy yorkies. Anybody would like to enlighten me? :p |
I really think that it's each individual dog's personality. I personally love my male yorkie...He is the sweetest, most loving dog I have ever known! He doesn't hump, he doesn't mark in the house, he follows me and my husband everywhere. He doesn't bark unless he thinks there's someone at the door, and he loves to give kisses. As far as females go, I just recently got a maltese female, and she is very sweet too, but she's more protective of us. She thinks she's a big dog, and she's only 3.5 lbs! Honestly I think it depends on the dog. |
Is it true that male yorkies are easier to housebreak than female yorkies? Is this a myth? |

to me from what i heard, i think females can be a bit more protective over their familes/territory than males.. but thats just for some cases.. |
The only reason I went with a female is because of the marking issues my toy poodle (RIP) had. I hated that part of him being male! I went hunting for a female poodle but fell in love with this guy and couldn't resist. This time when I went looking at Yorkies, I asked to ONLY see the females. I know not all males mark BUT it would be my hard luck to get one that does no matter what precautions we would take (neutering and training) and after going through that once, I just didn't want to take the chance. I do think my male poodle was maybe just a little more "kissy" than Tatum (our female Yorkie) but Tatum is so totally a snuggle bug (as was he). |
Keep in mind that females can mark and hump also. Just look for the dog that steals your heart whether it be male or female. Just make sure and spay/neuter them early so they don't start bad habits. Good luck! |
Well I guess, I just need to wait and see...Life is all about taking chances and I am taking my chance with a boy this time...I will keep you guys updated with my experiences... I will create a daily blog for Princeton Roscoe once he is home in April...Keep tuned in :) |
I have owned nothing but females all my life. When I was ready to get a yorkie, I knew I wanted a girl. Guess what? I ended getting a boy! I would not trade him for anything in this world. I could kick myself in the arse for being so 'naive' and never given a boy a chance. He is by far the sweetest, lovable dog I've had. He is 7 months, doesn't bark (unless someone is at the door), is very obidient, polite, and loves all animals....big or small :) He doesn't mark in the house and ocassionally humps but stops when caught and told not to. My poodle girl is lovable too but she is more reserved and less of a kisser etc. I love her just the same of course ;) |

I really like having one of each. My male is more playful and outgoing. My female is more reserved yet she is a total lovebug. I will alwayys have a male and a female |

To me, you will never know what can happen down the road and until then it's nothing but a 'potential of happening but not necessarily' ;) Boys rock! I hope more and more people give them a chance  |
I have both a male and a female. And suprisingly, the myth about the female being more aloofish and more independent is not true according to my Theresa. Rese is always around me, always angry if I close the door to go to the bathroom, always sleeping right on my neck. She's always with me. Now Teddy.. total lovebug. He does mark (and I must admit that it is difficult potty training them.. still haven't mastered it ) but he is such a sweetie pie. He needs to be around me ALL THE TIME. I think there is no difference with regards to gender. It really depends on the type of personality each dog has. I just happened to have dogs that are very attached to me.. But, it just depends on the type of personality the dog has, imo. Ashley |
I have both and I love them both. My male is more active and likes to play a lot and my female loves to cuddle more... but there is balance with two  My male does have marking issues... but we just have him wear a belly band around the house. He is only 18 months so we hope he may grow out of it... but I love him anyway. Lilly my female was much easier to potty train. Everybody is different! |
My male yorkie was neutered right around 1 yr old, and he doesn't mark in the house, he only pees on his puppy pads or outside if we take him out. Don't feel like you're taking a chance with a boy :) They're the sweetest little things!! :) My yorkie is a male, and like I said, he's always with me or my husband. Total lovebug! I think it depends on the specific dog. Stereotypes about males and females don't matter. Like everyone has said everyone's dog is different :) You're going to love your little Princeton Roscoe so much that nothing else matters!! :) |
