Baby Biter!!! Help!!! [F] Hey everyone i m new to this site, ive only been on here a few times and i love it...thank you all for all your help!! My new yorkiepoo,Diesel,is very bad with biting people!! He doesnt know the difference between play bite and mean bite!! I read online that its probably because his owners sold him to us way to early, because he is only 7wks!! and usually his brothers and sisters teach him the difference!! But i was wondering if anyone had some good pointers on teaching him not to bite people hands and feet!! We try to teach him by saying "no", but he is just so stubborn and he wont listen!!please help!!! [/FONT] |
I think maybe if you put a toy in his mouth when he bites he might learn the association of biting with playing with a toy.. and a firm No! Ive never had this problem, and i am sorry you are going thru this. |
When Hoku was younger and would bite I squealed 'ow' in a high-pitched voice and then gave her something to bite on. When she was just being a pill and wouldn't stop I scruffed her (grabbed the back of her neck and gave a little shake) - only had to do that twice and she got the message quick. That's what their mom or siblings would have done and they don't like it at all. Now all I have to say is 'no bite' and she backs off. Hope that helps! |

It isn't a cruel thing to do and it is something the puppy will understand. Putting them on their backs and holding them there is helpful too. The puppy must learn who is boss and what is acceptable behavior. |
They do grow out of it eventually so hang in there. |
