CAUTION: those who walk their dogs in snow
 
To all yorkie lovers who walk their babies in the snow... I watched a news report that said dogs (all kinds) are getting sick from walking in the snow. It actually is from their licking the snow off their feet when they get in from the walk. The cities with snowy weather conditions have the city to thank. When they De-Ice the streets, they're using a chemical (forgot the exact name) and its that chemical that the dogs are taking in and getting sick from... so for all yall who walk their dogs even in the snow, beware! They added that if you absolutely must, then have them wear shoes, and don't let them lick the ice (or their feet) after they come inside!! :eek:

Yes I heard about this too! It was the salt that they use on the roads that gets everywhere and the dogs are getting very sick from it! Good posting!

My Mom had a toy poodle who died from it year ago. She was old, but hae we only known, we could have had her for a while longer.

Max won't wear boots so I wash his feet off before I even take off my coat.

We usually wash off their feet once we get home, but thank you SO SO much for the warning!

Thank you for posting that information.
I always wash Buddy's feet off before I let him down in the house snow
or no snow.
It's always good to be reminded of these things.

Great post :thumbup:

I only walk mine in snow that has not been walked on..........reason being.......I like to take pics and I know they don't de-ice it. There are a few hills by me and are great. The rest of the walk..........I carry my babies with me, wash their paws once inside and dry them. ;)

Thank you for posting that information. I knew about this many years ago when I lived in SD, MN. and ND. Most people don't realize just what dogs feet pick up during a walk even in the nice months. They can pick up all sorts of bacteria and even the parvo virus. It's best to have some bicteria wipes handy before walking in the house. You should even consider NOT wearing the same shoes inside as you do outside, for the same reasons. Leave the shoes outside and have handy slippers waiting inside.

I live in Florida, so I don't have that problem, but fleas are outrageous. Thanks for your post. I'm sure it will be a good warning to a lot of people.
