Is anyone saying "What have I done" I know most of you with more than one pet are happy with your multiples, but I'm just wondering if there is anyone that has really regretted their decision to bring a new pet into their home? Is there anyone out there saying two are not twice as much trouble, they are ten times as much trouble. I know with my grandchildren, one at a time is much easier than 2. I was just wanting to hear both sides of this decision.:) |
I have asked myself "what have I done?" by bringing home two puppies that need house trained at one time -- but I have never regretted the decision. When I see how much they love each other and how they thoroughly enjoy each other so much, even double the accidents does not make me sorry. I will be SOOOOO glad though when we have this house training thing down pat. We do it all wrong here as neither my husband nor I can bear to crate them. So, it will take a little longer -- but we will get it done, getting better every day. We actually have had a few days without accidents but 2 in a row would be nice. |
At first, bringing Hootie home was hard work and I wouldn't say I regretted my decision, but at times I did think to myself, "What the h*ll did I get myself into?!"   Now that she is 9 months old, potty trained, crate trained, and over the threat of hypoglocemia, I do not regret my decision to get her for one second. We just got a lab puppy a couple of weeks ago, and again I am now thinking to myself, "What the H*LL did I get myself into?!" But i know in the end he will be a little angel and everything will work out. :) |
Absolutely not! I'm so happy with my girls and I love to see my older girl, Vixxen, finally have someone to run around with and play! We just took a little 5 hour road trip and they both want to be on my lap (I'm driving the motor home-lol!) and that was a bit more difficult! Because the puppy is still a puppy, walking two on a leash is a bit "tangly" but so far....I have actually considered getting yet another!! Now THAT makes me wonder though...because I like to take them both with me and I can't imagine being able to scoop up 3 easily when we're out the door - purse, doggie supplies, etc...:p |
I have three puppies under a year.. all about 2-3 months apart in age.. At first it was a bit of a shock to the system, but it all falls into place w/in a few weeks and I've never been happier :) |

Well, I've never regretted bringing another one home...although when I started talking about finding pet #4, I think my husband was asking himself "oh no, what have I done????";) |

I rescued a Westie about a month ago. She is 6 years old--same age as Edie, and a sweet, sweet girl. I did wonder, however, if I made a mistake, as Edie liked being the center of attention. After a month, I can say that they DO have fun together at times, but there might still be a little jealousy. I don't regret it, but I am not sure if bringing in a new dog made any difference at all to Edie. I had hoped she would enjoy the company since I can no longer take her to work. My husband loves the new dog, (so do I, for that matter) and she is very easy. I am glad we have been able to give her a good home. If you asked Edie, she would probably say "Whatever"..... |
I am just " THRILLED". with my TWO!! Before we got Kizzy, Penny was so lonely, laying around all the time, not eating much, and just so sad to watch... BUT NOW--- she is like a different dog, OMG she runs and plays, and hardly ever lays around except for there short naps around 2 pm. She eats like ive never seen her eat before. For us, we couldnt be happier with our decision to get Kizzy. And kizzy fits in our family, just like shes been here forever. |
I have never regretted it for a minute. We had Rowdy a year when we got Rexy. I will have to say that Rowdy STILL acts jealous sometimes, when he is on our lap and Rexy wants to get up there too. BUT they are best buds and they play, wrestly and play so much that I don't know what they would do without each other. I'm sorry I can't provide the "other perspective" I just love having two!!! |
This was a great question as I am getting ready to get a little boy within the next few months and I think what has kept me from doing it sooner is the fear that what if I regret my decision. What if Coco doesn't like it, or the puppy is a total terror or something..lol:p |
I'm glad you asked this....I'm picking my second one up this Sunday & I've been thinking the same thing....Am I doing the right thing?...Will they get along?.. Am I ready to go through the puppy phase again?...etc..etc.. I feel he looks so lonely at times....playing with the cat just doesn't cut it for him... I get butterflies every time I think of what's to come Sunday... I'm sure it will be o.k. |
I never for one second regretted adding Hopey to my family, BUT, I babysat my "grand-dog" this weekend(3mo old lab) and BOOYYYY was I glad when she went home.. i think my "puppy" days are past... hehe |
There are times when I have said "what have I done!", but like others, I dont' regret having them. I honestly don't know what I would do with out them. they are my life and I would have to find friends if I didn't have them. |

congrats on the new baby. |
I would love to get another one for Pip to play with but my DH has firmly placed his rather large foot down and said "NO!":( I can understand his thinking, having to go thru the house training thing again and all that. Pip is so good and house broke so quickly, with literally none of the other problems I've read about, I just KNOW I'll end up getting a little "demon seed" baby, lol. It's just one for me for a while, I guess. |
not so much regret but wondered what was i thinking bring home 2 untrained puppies while trying to potty train a toddler and aving an infant... but it has all worked itself out.! i'm never bored!:D |
Great Replies Thanks so much for all your replies. It is a big step bringing in a new life that you are responsible for, especially as you get to the time of life when health is heading downhill.:) |
I definitely don't regret it...but my gosh, my Bindi (5 months) is such a handful!! At times I miss my "alone-time" with Tika - if I take one with me and leave the other at home, lots of barking for a loooonnnnng time. So I don't do that very often. It feels like I have toddlers again. No regrets-I love my pups...it's just more hectic these days. |
I can answer, yes and no to this one. I felt Chewie needed a friend because he was so hyper. But then when I got Karma (cockapoo), he at times is very aggressive towards her and I think he would have been better off being an only dog. But I love my Karma to pieces, and most of the time they do play and interact very well together. I think it all has to do with the dogs personality and behavior. |
When I brought number three (Reece) into our home I thought that for quite a while...now he is my best buddy, and I am closest to him...now I am saying "what would i do without him" Dawn |
I'm so glad you started this thread. Once I get Max retrained after neutering,I'd love another puppy, but mostly Max is just bored and lonesome by himself. Like someone else posted, he sleeps a lot and waits for me to pay attention to him. I'd like a little girl. I can't go through the marking again. Thanks, Judy |
Only time i regret having four is bath day and that only last till they are all done and look so good. I have been blessed that all mine get along so well. It's just me and them, don't know if I would have four if I had a house full of humans. I am never alone. lol |
Not me I am really Happy to have two. I like having a boy and a girl. Plus I think Chachi would be rreally bored if we didnt have Jewels. Mine are only a month apart in age so they took to each other right away. I really like having two but i think I want one more than I will be happy. |
The best decision I made was to get a second one, they keep each other company and are sisters in every way. I am so happy with my two that I am starting my search for a third one. I want a little boy. But, I am going to take my time as I am looking for a particular look and weight. |
