Hi! I'm new here and planning on getting a yorkie
 

Hello,

My name is Amber. I live in Seattle, WA. I have 2 children, no pets. I have always been around dogs and I fell in love with yorkies. I have several books on yorkies and have been researching them for a while. I am so glad I found this site. I plan on getting a yorkie in a few months or so. I am in no hurry. I want to find the perfect breeder and perfect pup for us. I want a female (possibly a male) and preferably with show-potential as I really would love to get into shows. Ultimately, I want 2 puppies. My question is, do I get one first then get another down the road? Or do I get 2 about the same time? I have had fun reading the posts here and seeing all the adorable pictures. I am learning sooo much!

:yorkietal :welcome4: Welcome to YT. I don't know much about getting two dogs at once. I just got my first yorkie a couple of weeks ago. But I am sure someone here will surely be able to help you out!

hi welcome to YT! I have 2 now but didnt get them at the same time... i can see good and bad to both.... there are a few members here who have gotten two at once, maybe they can give you more ideas but WELCOME!

I got my two 4 months apart..it was very hard at first but its getting better now that they are housebroken lol...

Hi and :welcome4: well you'll get a lot of info in this website soo hope u like it.

I think it would be alot harder to keep a routine with both being puppies. I would get one and then when that one has the routine down, then get the other. Then the older one helps out the other one with potty training, eatting time, nighty night time, etc. But thats my personal opinion.

Welcome to YT! We have a few members here that have gotten 2 puppies at once. I bet they can give you a lot of insight :)

I got mine 1 month apart. If you are getting two anyway I would get two together and they wont have to adjust to each other. Although I did get mine one month apart and Chachi didnt have any trouble accepting Jewels. I think as long as your first one is stilll a puppy you wont have any trouble with them getting used to each other quickly

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! I have loved reading all the posts here and seeing all the great pictures. After thinking about it more, I think I will get only one puppy then get another one down the road. Thanks for the advice.

I have a question, maybe someone can give me some advice. I am talking to a woman that just had 2 pups last week. She said the parents are AKC but the the person who sold her the mom didn't sign the transfer papers, so she can't register the puppies. They will be CKC and ACA registered. Should I consider her pups? I am thinking of possibly doing shows and/or breeding (if it is breed standard and I have more experience). She will give full rights, but it wouldn't be AKC. Or should I try to find a good breeder that will give full rights that is AKC? Hmmmm, I think I should go with AKC, but I am not 100% sure.

If you are wanting to show I would look for an AKC pup

Totally lied about the size, weight, etc. I paid $4200 for her including air fare. I love my Lola, but I really got taken. Totally lied about the size, weight, etc. I paid $4200 for her including air fare. I love my Lola, but I really got taken. There was nothing I could do, as I live in California and she was in Georgia. Beware and GOOD LUCK!!

Hi and welcome to YT. You sure are doing your home work and it's wonderful to see.
First off, NEVER buy a puppy sight unseen. Go to someone who shows these dogs even if you have to be on their waiting list for a puppy, it so well worth it. Let them know you want a show puppy. Also make sure they have the bile acid test done on the puppy and papers from the Vet. to prove it. Let them give you all those papers including the AKC forms they sign and you fill out to mail in with a small fee. Also a reputable breeder will have a contract for you to sighn. Read it over very carefully before signing in case there is some clause you don't understand or like.
I would get only one puppy at a time. This way you can train this puppy and have obedience training out of the way before starting all over. Good luck.

Welcome to YorkieTalk! We're in Seattle too, if you want, you can check out a Seattle Yorkie Meetup group sometime (http://yorkie.meetup.com/258) which meets every third Saturday. You can see all kinds of purebred Yorkies (from smaller to bigger, different colors, etc) and talk with their parents about them.

We got our two from the same breeder in Everett, WA, but at different times. There's good and bad in getting them at the same time. The good is they grow up together and one won't get testy when a new one comes into the home, the bad is it's probably almost twice as much work initially.
