Help!!!! I need advice
 

Hey everyone,
I am in need of some advice. As most of you know I aqquried a male puppy from my mentor to later breed with my bitch. Well he has been growing much faster than either of us expected, at 12 weeks he is nearly 3 lbs. Now this causes a problem because Bridget at 5.5 months is the same size as Xander, which could cause complications later like c section and so on. The vet has estimated that Xander will more than likely be a 6.5-8 lb dog very possibly out of breed standard (problem #2 because we want to show) and Bridget should by 4.5 to 5 lbs fully grown. I guess I would just like some other advice, my mentor strongly suggest selling him and finding a replacement pup. I love him already, but I know that if I keep him he will most likely not be what we needed for showing and breeding. Should I sell him and look for a smaller male? If I keep him and neuter him I am still obligated to replace a female later (not an issue really in my oppinion) It just isnt something I could afford to buy yet another (3rd) yorkie to care for and hope he will be show quality. If I sell him, part of me feels really bad. I do know this was not something we expected, and the whole point was for us to have eventlly 2 show dogs and maybe a breeding pair. Any thoughts?

Did you have him only for breeding ? If for show , you can show him . My friend have male of 6 - 7 pounds who are champions .

6-7lb is the correct size for a yorkie.

This is one reason a breeder should not place a show or breed potential before they know for sure it is what they say it is..if he is not quite 3 pounds at 12 wks, he will probably not be over the standard of 7 pounds. Alot depends on his frame size.
Owing breeders pups back can be a difficult bill to pay..best wishes

His frame is quite large and he has been growing quickly. From the looks of it I would be lucky if he is at 7 lbs when he is done growing. The vet said if I was lucky a low estimate of his weight was 6.5 lbs, but he honestly felt that he would likely be more than eight ( he gained over a lb in two weeks). He looked at his bone structure (his paws are really big, and he is longer in the legs than we expected) compared to Bridget as well and said he would likely be to big to breed her later on. I do want to show both of them and breed later if all testing comes out well. However I owe this person a pup later. She is pushing me to sell, and I am so confused. It breaks my heart to do this, but if he is over the standard there would be not point in showing or breeding him. I cannot afford to keep him and get another Yorkie for show as well. I guess I was just hoping to get advice, becasue he would be easier to sell and place as a puppy versus an oversized adult. I also have her my mentor to deal with, which she is putting presure on me to sell him. She knows later I promised a pup and I will have to find a way to give her one eventully. Just concerned and confused is all.

You sure are between a rock and a hard place aren't you? If the breeder is pushing to sell, she may not think he is going to work out for show/breeding.
This is a hard decision for you. I had to kiss some "frogs" before I bred my "Prince"..sometimes the smallest thing made them a poor show choice and it killed me...that is how I wound up with 27 Yorkies for awhile..I could not part with any..then I met a few breeders with 40, 50, 60 Yorkies and knew I had to place the ones who were not right for me at that time. I could have been like the woman with 230 dogs. LOL

IMO I say that although it will break your heart to see him go it is what I think you should do. As you said, now is the right time to sell him since he is still a puppy and you can find him a good home. The longer you keep him the more attached you will become to him. You need to get back on track on what you trully wanted to do which is breed and show. Also you now have the responsibility of owing a pup to your mentor. Since you said you cannot really afford to buy a 3rd pup then I think you shld sell the male you have which will help you in obtaining another male. Goodluck and sorry to hear
