Puppy Nursing Question Hi I have been keeping in touch and emailing with this lady who has puppies. They are 6 mos old now and the mother is refusing to nurse. What does this mean and is it healthy and ok? |
Do you mean six weeks? From reading the posts the breeders write on this forum six weeks is normal and healthy. |
Sandrine and Shania never allows the pups to nurse after 6 weeks old . The puppies start to have their teeth . It is normal and ok . |
oh oops yes I meant 6wks and thanks a lot. I read so many posts saying pups were not allowed to leave until 12wks so I thought that was the reason. She is calling me today at 430 to come and see them I cant wait |
The mother may start to not be interested to have the puppies nurse but I will never let go my pups to their new homes before they are 12 to 16 weeks old . 6 weeks is much to young to quite the mother and siblings . Most peoples want them at 6 weeks old but few days later are asking for help because the pup is not feeling well or whatever reasons . It is better to wait until the proper age . |
Yes I thought they would be too young but she is ready to sell now. She is suppose to be calling me today Ill let you know what she says |
6 Weeks is too young! [B]In Florida, it is against the law to sell puppies under 8 weeks of age and without a health certificate. In the case of the yorkie...10 weeks and so on..many people keep yorkies longer than 8 weeks to make sure they are well on their way (healthwise) and adjusted. Puppies start to cut teeth and start biting their mother and this is why she's being stand-offish with them. The other weeks need to be set aside to start adjusting them to their new homes. Personally, I don't like to keep my yorkies past 12 weeks because they start developing personality and it's hard to depart with them. Can't keep them all..... :aimeeyork |
