IS my 3 mo. old Yorkie going to get sick from RABBIT droppings?
 
We have a TON of rabbits where I live, and now that the snow is melting a bit, Scruffy is starting to eat the droppings!!?! I really try NOT to let him do this, but sometimes it's inevitable especially since he runs when I tell him NOT TO DO IT, and he gobbles them up as fast as he can (it has become a game) he really knows he's not suppose to do it. He is going in next week for his 3rd set of shots.......but I am concerned with him getting some kind of worm or something.

oh my god i can't believe that you posted this because we arehaving the SAME problem.. layla thinks it's heaven.. but trying to watch that she done'st get any is almost impossible... i'd really be careful because he is so young.. but i imagine if he only gets a few he'll be ok!

it is possible that the rabbit poop could cause diarrhea or intestinal parasites. morgan loves rabbit poop too so i take her outside on a leash so i can pull her away from the poop and tell her no. she does better about eating the poop when she's leashed as opposed to roaming free

Bunny Poop!
 
We had a rabbit that past away last year, but when she was alive both my kids ate her poop every now and then. I have all the furkids poop checked once a year or sooner if I feel its needed, but nothing ever came up.

But of course our Bunny was also check yearly, now had it been wild rabbits that's different I would take my Yorkies poop to get checked. I do this now when I see there have been cats pooping in my yard, I wait one week before taking in the poop for a more accurate reading.

My dog became very ill from eating rabbit poop. He developed round worms, and had diarreah. Had to go to the vet and get on antibiotics. I thought his heartworm medicine protected him against it, but I was wrong. I ended up changing his heartworm medicine. Be careful, and keep a close watch on your dog. Get a blood test if you suspect anything suspicious.

I'm so sorry this happen to your doggie, can I ask what heart worm medicine you had him on and what you ended changing to??

Both my furkids act like the rabbit poop is a new kind of treat. I couldn't figure out last night what they were eating, and this morning in the light.......We have a ton of rabbits at our place too, and I think they all poop in the front pen where I let my babies out.
