Question About The Shots OK Daisy was 14 1/2 weeks when she got her 4th set of shots and my vet wants to do another set on March 1st????  she will be almost 19 weeks? does this sound right i know it's every 3 weeks till 16 weeks i really don't know what to do? Does anyone have any suggestions? |
Is she getting the parvo/distemper combo in March or just the rabies. Mine got 4 sets of Parvo/distemper combo shots then the rabies |

It sounds like too many shots to me. Mine also got one bordatello |
Do you know when she started her series of shots? If the first series was before 8-9 weeks, the vets don't count this. Their position is anything given prior to 8 weeks does the pup no good since the mother's antibodies are still in their system, and even more so if they weren't weaned before 6 weeks. I just went through this with my vet with Angel cause I was told if the vaccines begin after 8 weeks (she was 9 weeks), then 3 rounds is all they need, plus the rabies and bordatella. I was informed that they strongly recommend 4 full series after 8 weeks of age. Angel also will not get her rabies will 6 months. And I am having them separate the distemper and lepto vaccines. |
I am trying to find the shot record to see when it was started. Also (i'm so mad about this) But she has had 3 bordatella's my vet gave her a third when my mom took her in i was so peeved! She had just had one a few weeks earlier and they say every six months with that |
Puppies get vaccinated every 3 wks til they are 16 wks old. The bordetella vaccine is given @ 10 weeks old and then again 3 wks later. Quote:

Ok i found it she was born on 10/22 and had her first Da2pp on 12/03 next one on 12/17 next one on 1/3 and another one from my vet in jan And she had bordatella on 12/4 and 12/21 plus one more from my vet 3 weeks ago |
Wow that does seem like alot of shots to me. I start mine at 3 weeks and the vet gives them another in 3 weeks and another 3 weeks after that. That is it besides the rabies shot and we until 5 months or so for that. |
I think it all depends on what state you're in too. Im in California and we start the 6 in 1 vaccine @ 5 weeks, then give boosters every three wks til they are 16 wks old. The bordetella starts @ 10 wks of age and then one more vaccine is given 3 wks later. Rabies is given @ 16 wks of age here too. Quote:

well i have decided not to get her another set i think it's to much it just seems like he wants my money the last set cost $200.00:eek: also they gave her the 3rd bordatella and i came unglued on him so he put a credit for it on my acct. I really like how he is with me he will get on the phone and talk to me forever about whatever i need and he seems very knowledgable but the prices are outragious and there are some other little things i don't like but it's so hard to find a vet also the vet hospital i took Daisy to when she had the overdose i liked them but they did some things that made me drop my jaw first this is i told them she has Giardia well the lady took her temp at the front desk and the sleeve had poop on it well she had it in her hand while she was writing the temp down and it got all over the counter and she didn't clean it up nor was she wearing gloves and she didn't wash her hands after. Also when they found out the pharmacy was footing the bill things got expensive really quick |
I wouldnt either I think she has definitely had enough. |
I'm really concerned with what and how many they really need. Sparky has had two bad reactions to shots. He is 14 weeks old. He was given a ParvoK-11 (Progard C PvStrain at about 3 weeks (by the breeder) and two wormings (by the breeder). I acquired him at 6 weeks. At 9 weeks the vet gave him a distemper, adenovirus 2, parainfluenza, parvovirus, and coronavirus shots, and wormed. 7 days later he started throwing up (8 - 10 times in less than an hour). Took him to vet, they said it was stress from sneezing, not shot related. At 13 weeks he was given the same series, another worming and the very same day within 2 hours throwing up again. They had given him some Benedryl with the injections. Vet was closed so I had to take him to ER vet (BIG money). He was given injections with something to calm his stomachThis could have been prevented had my vet erred on the side of caution and maybe considered the first event could have been shot related. I don't know whether he should continue the regime of puppy shots, on what timetable (they have him coming back in 4 weeks), and at what expense is this going to really benefit Sparky? I keep him inside all the time, he's only exposed to our coon hound (who has been vaccinated and recieved all her shots). What's scarey is the vet was going to give Sparky a rabies shot also, but said he didn't want to stress him too much! NO DAH! I've read on here where they shouldn't get a rabies shot until 5 or 6 months. Someone out there that's a veteran yorkie owner, please help me decide what I need to do. |
That seems like an awful lot of money. My bill was never over 65.00 for shots and exam (it was more when I got sentinal and her microchip) and my vet is not cheap. A parrots nail trim is 17.00. I'd do a little more research locally as to what is needed and what is a customary charge then go to your vet and ask for an expaination. |
