Cesar dog food...anyone else try it??
 

I have started my two on Cesar kibble for small breeds and they just LOVE IT!!

They have had it about a week now and just love the little tiny bites...anyone else using it??

I have been using Cesars wet food for ever!! I didn't know they even made kibble?!?! Where'd you get it? I'd try it if I could find it.

Mine love Cesars wet I also didn't know they made a Kibble. I am hoping it is a better quality food than the wet.

I use the wet as an incentive to get Abbie to eat sometimes. She's just skin and bones so I like to make sure she eats enough and will sometimes split a wet pack between the two girls. They LOVE it which means it's probably bad for them, right? I didn't know they made kibble either.

Where did you find dry cesaer's. I didn't know they made it. I feed mine the wet for breakfast. Some on here say it isn't the best but when Ceeby was a baby he wouldn't eat anything else. So, we have stuck with it and I leave Eukanuba down all day.

Looks like it's Canada only. I checked out the website, and it wasn't on the USA one. Then I saw OP is in Canada, and I looked at their Canadian site, and they have the dry. It did not list the ingredients though.

I use Cesar wet food over here.Ellie has dry food down all the time.I cant get Cesar kibble here in the UK.:)

I think the dry may only be in Canada. I could only find it on the cesar.ca site. But saw no listing of the Ingredients. I know I would not feed Cesar's wet food as it is nothing more than water, by-products and preservatives. Here is a sample list of ingredients -- all flavors have the same basic ingredients.

Ingredients: Sufficient Water for Processing, Beef By-Products, Meat By-Products, Liver, Poultry By-Products, Beef, Caramel Coloring, Calcium Carbonate, Sodium Tripolyphosphate, Carrageenan, Dried Yam, Xanthan Gum, Natural Flavors, Potassium Chloride, Salt, Erythorbic Acid, Liquid Top Sirloin Flavor, Guar Gum, Zinc Sulfate, Vitamin A, D3, & E Supplements, Sodium Nitrite (for color retention), d-Calcium Pantothenate, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1).

Specific by-products are bad enough, but when it just says "meat byproducts" I get a little sick to my stomach. They identified the beef and chicken by-products and would probably do the same if it were pork, so what do you think those "meat by-products" might be?

I have heard some say, well in the wild they would eat the whole animal. But in the wild, they would also get the GOOD stuff, the muscle meat and prime organs -- not just the offals, beaks, feet, head, and 4Ds (dead, disabled, dying, and diseased).

I know some say, it is better that they eat any dog food than not eat well. Would we say that if they were eating their poop? I think it is more important to stick to our guns and make sure they eat a healthy dog food. I would not have let my son tell me he was only going to eat chips, and I won't let my dogs tell me they will only eat cheap, disgusting dog food. They will eventually eat the good stuff and be much healthier for it. I love these guys and want them with me a very long time! Say no to Cesar's!

Wow -- while I was trying to find links for my last reply, it looks like a lot responded that they use Cesar's dog food. I am surprised and hope I did not offend anyone. I guess it is like anything else -- we all have our own preferences and opinions.

Just do a little research is all I ask. The labels are misleading. Make sure you know what you are really feeding these VIPs (very important pups!). Then if you decide to still open that tray of Cesar's, it is your choice.

I know caesars isnt the best food. It is the only moist mine will eat. I have wrote and requested samples of evanger food for them to try though. It is similar to Merricks. It looks good enough for me to eat it with pasta vegies and meat in it. I hope they like it then I am going to start ordering it

Maddie and Tucker eat the Ceasers wet food. Some might say it's awful for them. But they won't eat anything. and it's better that they're eating something that might not be the best for them than not eating at all.

I know they can get picky. Mine won't eat Merricks and it does look good enough to serve for people dinner. I have thrown a lot of dog food away over the last few months, trying to find something my two Yorkie pups will eat that is still amenable to my other two. I finally found Canidae that all 4 like. I just wish I could find a local store that carried it.

You don't have to throw away the dry food they won't eat. I bought several different kinds of bagged food: started with science diet dry (before I knew better), then Iams, then Diamond. All that food she wouldn't eat, I gave to my sister. She used to work at the animal shelter, and they were glad to get it.

Ellie mainly eats dry when she likes.One tray of Cesar lasts her for 2 days,she doesn't eat much.
My last Yorkie,Trixie,was brought up on Cesar and ate it for seventeen years, then because it started to upset her we changed to Whiskas cat food on the Vets advice.She lived to be 19years 10 months and lived a very happy and healthy life.:)

I got it at Walmart...hmmm wonder why they dont carry it in the States??

The first ingredient is chicken in this particular bag...all I know is that my dogs love it...they have less BM's than they did with Royal Canin. I would hate to read some of the ingredients of most of the foods we eat lol...I am sure we eats lots and lots of by-products daily...

I really like it for Darla because she has a really hard time eating kibble..she chokes easily. Reece can eat any thing without choking but I am sure Darla looked up and me and said "thanks mom" when I offered her the Cesar hehe..

Not to worry -- I'm only throwing away what was left out in their bowls. We have lots of pets in the family and someone is always willing to eat what the others won't. But we do take bags of dog food to the shelter occasionally -- not as often as we should. Hubby likes to do it every Christmas.

i am one that says it is better than nothing. I am not talking about not eating well, I am talking about eating NOTHING but Nutracal for days. Sure, I came on here and tried all the suggestions from people that are supposed to know. Boiled chicken and etc. I can tell you right now that after nearly losing Ceeby and having the vet in three times his first Thanksgiving and then many hypoglycemic episodes after that, if he want s to eat Ceaser's, he is going to eat Cesears. he is more important to me than the opinions of people. BTW, he is not a poopeater.

For those of you who can't get your yorkies to eat dry food, try braunswieger (liverwerst SP?) mixed in with it. You can get it by the lunchmeats. I just slice a thin slice off and nuke it for a few seconds to make it softer and more flavorable and smash it in with the dry dog food to coat it and my picky eaters gobble it up. You don't need much. It is only about 1.87 a roll. A lot cheaper than Cesears.

The difference is that dog food by-products are normally what is not legal for human food. There is a world of difference in what is allowed in dog food and what is allowed in human food. Don't take my word for it -- google dog food meat by-products and read.

It is not just the "grossness factor" -- it is a matter of good nutrition. By products do not have a consistent nutritional value. Think of the batch made with mostly chicken beaks and feet, versus another batch made mostly with offals. Another factor to consider is that many of those by-products that are not allowed in the human food is full of hormones and pesticides. Meat by-products do not even identify the animal used! Was it an euthanized dog or cat? Was it road kill? A diseased mammal?

Another factor to consider in dog food choice is the total content -- is a meat first, are the by-products kept to a minimum or do they make up the majority of the product? What about corn, wheat, and soy? Look at the total content of the food -- not just an individual item. Pet-nutrition experts say human-grade ingredients like meat, whole grains and vegetables are best for dog food -- stay away from a lot of fillers (rice is fine but oats, wheat and corn have little to no nutritional value for dogs).

I am trying to stay away from by-products, corn, wheat and soy. I look mainly to the first 5 ingredients -- want them to be the best source of protein for my dogs. For instance, the canned Canidae I use has : Chicken, Chicken Broth, Lamb, Chicken Liver, Herring (Source of Omega 3) ... for the first 5 ingredients. The dry food I am using right now has chicken, chicken meal, barley, chicken fat, and egg as the first 5. The canned is more nutritious but I have to have dry for their teeth health and to maintain free feeding.

Bottom line is everyone just has to do what is best for their dog. Some do not like the foods I am feeding mine. Mine did not like some that were very nutritious. I have 4 dogs and found some foods that did well for some while others developed diarrhea. So, I do not have the perfect answer for all dogs by any means. But I do think that we owe it to the dogs to provide something that is healthy and more nutritious than most of the brands offered at department and grocery stores. JMO.

I understand the frustration but what if you had never tried Cesar's? I am pretty sure they would be eating something else. I do not believe there are whole lines of dogs that will only eat one food. But then I have not owned them all. I have gotten dogs from people before that told me they would only eat one thing -- invariably I switched them to whatever I felt was best. I am a little surprised that a breeder would feed Cesar's but your dogs look beautiful. So who knows, maybe my nutrition research is all for naught.

I have seen plenty of dogs live years and years and years on the cheapest available foods possible or living on table scraps...not saying its right to feed like that but just saying to me Cesar seems like a good food. My two love it..and I feel it is very good for them.

My Harvey Also Prefers Ceaser Refined - Pouches. He Is A Fussy Eater And Has Had Me Worried Sick In The Past. He Has Semi-moist Food With A High Meat Content, Left Down All The Time As Well. But I Dont See Him Eat It Much. He Eats His Ceaser Warmed With Small Bite Mixer - And Seems To Really Enjoy It.

I Had Heard It Was Not One Of The Better Ones - But I Too Was Relieved To Have Him Eating - He Is Only 3.5 Lb.

I Am More Concerned Now After Reading Some Of These Threads - I Will Have To Try Some Other Things With Him.

I Dont Want To Make Him Even More Fussy - But I Want Him Eating The Best I Can Give Him Too.

I used to give my little guy Cesar because I didn't know any better. Long story short, it made him really sick as a pup. Plus have you looked at the ingredients and the consistency of the food? :eek:

We were doing Blue Buffalo wet food as potty treats (pooping on the pad is sometimes a struggle) but switched to Merrick because Petco had buy one, get one free coupons. My husband commented that the steak tips looked and smelled good enough to eat!

I to feed Bella Cesar's in the morning and she get royal canin dry all day,she will have a good crunch and munch around supper time put we have to be with her and play a game of ball to get her to eat.

I think media has alot to do with how we view dog food these days.

I would think if Cesar's was putting dead rotten stuff in there food all of our dogs would be dead or very sick.

So for us a Cesar breakfast is just fine , our Costco sells it for a good price and Bella only gets a half container a day.
