They are vommitting poop!!! Roxie just came in from using the bathroom and she smelled like she had rolled in poop, so I smelled her and realized it was coming from her mouth. I gave her a bath, and while I was at it I bathed reghan too. While I was drying Reghan, Roxie vomitted. It smelled just like poop, and was brown. About 2 minutes later, I noticed Reghan was vomitting. It also smelled like poop and was brown. OMG...what is wrong with my girls??? Can someone help me please!!! I am calling the animal ER now!!!Both of them are acting fine, no diarrhea, or anything. HELP, PLEASE!!!! |
maybe they just ate their poop? i know some dogs do it and can be stopped with pills. |
Chachi did that one time after eating cat poop. I am sure after their stomachs calm down they will be fine |
It's possible they ate their own poop... but... I've never really heard of a dog getting sick from eating their own poop, so maybe they ate something that came from another animal that was in your yard? There are lots of reasons why dogs eat their own poop - and ways to stop the behavior without resorting to medications or pills - natural methods. Poop eaters are a hot topic here... do a search and you'll get lots of answers. If the vomiting continues, I'd consult your vet. |
Thanks guys!I called the ER and they said they didn't know of anything, besides an obstruction. They also said that it is $70 per dog, plus the cost of any treatment! They are both resting now, no more vomitting. I am boiling chicken breast cause they are both acting hungry. Should I give them some Nemex (just in case it is worms), they were dewormed at the vet about 10 days ago. I guess we will keep an eye on them, and take them into the vet in the morning. Please help guys, I am sooo scared! I love my girls and I can't take them being sick! There are no more animal ER's around here (I live in a small town) so I don't know who else to ask. You guys are all I got!!Thanks and keep us in your prayers-Tara Oh, I forgot to mention that they are pooping just fine. No more, no less, and no diarrhea. It is a good possibility that Roxie ate cat poop (there is one next door), but Reghan doesn't go out (she is too young) so how could she have gotten ahold of poop (or anything) from outside? Help me, I am so scared and confused right now!!!! :( :( |
I posted in your other thread but will post here again. Reghan could have eaten her own poop. As long as they are pooping, they are probably not obstructed. I would watch and see. As long as they keep food down and poop regularly, then they are probably eating poop and not obstructed. |
Thanks Gracie!! I posted here and the other one cause I was panicing and I needed ALL the answers I could get. The girls are doing okay now. They haven't vomited anymore. They just ate boiled chicken and rice about 5 minutes ago, so we are praying they keep it down. Neither have pooped since earlier this morning. Their abdomens are soft, and non-tender. They don't act like they have a belly ache. Right now they are playing and wrestling around!!!:) Hopefully they stay this way. Keep us in your prayers!-tara |
Update We now have poop (Reghan), so I guess it's not an obstruction! Sigh, I NEVER thought I would be so excited about poop (especially when it's on my floor)!! Oh well, thank God for poop!!!!!:) ;) |
Maggie ate her poop a few times when she was little. I read a link (cant find it now) but it was just about stuff like this and what to do. She said, sprinkle a little plain meat tenderize on their food before they ate it. Seems to have worked for Maggie. I dont know of her eating it anymore. I would sprinkle in on her food everytime she ate and just stir it in. She said apparently something in their digestive track puts a smell in it they dont like. I dont know it thats what broke her or she just quit doing it. But you could try it. I did. |

Are you noticing if they could be eating their own poop? If you are not finding as much as you used to it could mean they are recycling it. |
