We looked at yorkies today!
 

As alot of you know I lost my yorkie, Toby, this week during exploratory surgery. I can't believe it but my husband took me to check out a few puppies today. He was the one telling me to wait awhile but I just can't. I have such a void in my heart right now.
Anyway, I received a few suggestions and went and checked them out today. I looked at 3 puppies but none jumped out at me. They were very cute though. Tomorrow I am going to look at one that is 9wks. old and is a chocolate. I had never heard of this color yorkie.
Toby was over 11lbs. and this time I would like one a little smaller. This males parents are (mom) 5lbs 2ozs. (dad) 3lbs. 5ozs. I know there are no guarantees but should this one stay on the smaller side? This is the only pup from this litter. I guess he is a little overweight since he was the only one nursing from the mother. Shouldn't that come off after he becomes more active?
I will not be using him to stud so the color will not be an issue that way.
Also, should I feel guilty about getting a chocolate? I have read a little on here about how some feel its not right to breed this color but I have also read how some others would love to have one.
These are a husband and wife who tried breeding their yorkie for the first time. He has been raised in their home with children. He is AKC. (Which I can honestly say I never sent Toby's papers in since I never planned on breeding him.) They know his color is different and are only asking $500 for him.
Please give me some input. I am supposed to go see him tomorrow morning.

You can never replace Tody....... but you can fill a void that is left .... I feel like you are honoring him .... wanting to love another because he was so wonderful... It is the best thing I did.... I had such a whole in my heart.... but I know my baby would not want me to be sad...
Go for it.... you will still love Toby just the same as you always did.... you just won't feel so empty...

I'd say if it's a situation where you can see the parents and play with the pup and talk to the owners, and it's only $500, sounds like you can't go wrong, if the pup appeals to you!

Since this is the first breeding, there is the disadvantage of not having previous litters as a reference for how your pup might turn out. If the size is really important to you, you could ask what they know about the sizes further UP the line, since of course litters (like human children!) can always throw back to past generations.

Otherwise, yeah, given the weights of the mom and the dad, it's most likely that the pup will at least turn out to be smaller than your previous dog.

On the chocolate issue....I'm personally not partial to that color....but again....if the pup appeals to YOU....that's all that matters!

It sounds great to me!! I love chocolate yorkies and would love to have one. You will know when you see the puppy whether he is right for you. Just ask lots of questions and get as much info you can on the puppy and his parents.

Be sure it has been vet. checked and bile acid tested and the papers to prove it from the vet. There seems to be quite a few Yorkies for sale these days, so take your time and make sure you choose a nice healthy one and never buy sight unseen.

There seems to be a lot of Yorkies to choose from. And also YD mentioned the tests that need to be run....that is a very wise idea.......

Regarding color...if you want a Yorkie that is the standard.....well, choc is not......and considering the large selection in your area.......I would not make a quick decision.......

Firstly, could I please ask what a chocolate yorkie is? I've never heard of one over here.

I'm so sorry you lost Toby & can quite understand how you're feeling having lost so many through the years.
As you're not planning on breeding, I think the main thing is to find one that you fall in love with & meets what you're hoping for enough that you know you won't regret the decission.
He won't replace Toby in your heart, but make his own little space in it.

I am so glad your moving on and thinking of getting another baby to love.
I, personally, like the chocolate yorkies.
As long as he appeals to you and your not breeding I'd say go for it.
