I'm thinking about pulling up my carpeting too. I took up all of my beautiful area rugs already. I love carpeting, but so does Max. I just scrubbed it down with OdorMate, which supposedly gets rid of skunk odors. He also just peed on the couch so I saturated that with the same stuff.

I'm sorry, I'm not getting rid of my couch! Next thing, I'll be sitting on beach chairs with wood floors. Maybe I'll just scatter sand all over the living room floor, put in a kiddie pool and pretend I live on the beach.

He's lucky I love him so much.

Mojo...how much pee are we talking about? It would take buckets to ruin laminate...NO, I would not put it in a kennel, but a house is no problem IMO. My pups have peed many times on the bare floor until learning to use the weewee pads..but I use a paper towel right away and there is no warping in 3yrs. Plus, I have found dried urine in a few out of the way places with lingering no problems...what I find is any liquid puddles up..water, soft drinks, etc..BUT alot depends on how it is installed and how many dogs you have..

In 1993 we had carpet throught out the house. A big flood happened (I live on the Gulf of Mexico) and we ripped up all the carpet. After what I saw under that carpet I will never have it in my house again. Carpet is never really clean. There must have been gallons of sand alone under it. When you wet it much of the dirt just settles in. Also, after you clean it it actually gets dirtier faster because you have degraded the fibers. I have tile throghout my home and clean up is a breeze. With three parrots and Brissy piddling and crapping everywhere a simple wipe is all thats needed.

YOU are so right..when I mop the pergo or tile you would not believe how dirty the mop is..and I do it twice a week...in the past all that dirt went into the carpets...

Once we pulled up wall to wall and the pad smelled so bad the guys eyes were watering...I used my a stream cleaner once a month...

I have asthma so I'm big on no carpeting.. or I've always lived in rentals that had new carpeting before I had dogs :)

I know what you mean - everyone told us we should put carpet in our bedroom too. NOPE! :rolleyes: I put a cheap (washable) throw rug on each side of the bed so that when our feet hit the floor, we hit rug and then can slide into our houseshoes. Works GREAT!

My whole house was carpeted with white burber carpeting and about 2 months after I got Louie I tore it all up! It just wasnt worth the frustration. Luckily I already had beautiful hardwoods underneath so I was all set! I think you will be very happy after tearing them up. Good luck!

I have 2 dogs, and urine spots everywhere in my house! I think the biggest problem is when my son is at home with them, he doesnt watch them well or take them out frequently. If I got laminate, the problem is the urine could/would sit there for hours before i got home.
I think i am now sold on tile with radiant heat. I checked on lowes.com and looks like the radiant heat will be affordable.
I am really excited now!
There is nothing more embarrassing than having people come into your house and it smells like a pet shop! Especially considering I only have the 2 dogs.

I think the tile sounds great...radiant heat will make the world of difference won't it...? Nothign used to ge tme more excited then new floors..LOL

I was visiting my friend yesterday...a Yorkie person..her carpets are only 12 months old and she had me on my knees smelling the floor to see if I noticed anything..everything was fine until I smelled one area by a chair...it was really bad..only dog people understand!

I might add one great trick is a small crock pot with liquid potourrie..I used to have them in every room..LOL Set them on warm and they last forever...

txshopper I love that floor. Getting ready to remove my carpet here and was thinking bout ceramic. But what you did looks great!

Who did your floor??? Was it very expensive? Is it something I can do myself?

We are in the process of laying wood floors ourselves because of urine smells. So far our puppy Abbie has only had a couple of accidents. I have to keep the bedroom doors shut because she also likes the carpet. I don't mean to highjack this thread, but since we are on the subject of wood.... can someone that has had experience with laying wood please tell me how they removed the excess adhesive from the top of the strips. We are gluing our floor down and we have been using mineral spirits, but it's really not helping much. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It must be so stressfull trying to keep up with cleaning.
Dosen't anyone crate train? Or leave your little one in a
closed off area until they are trained?
I know Yorkies can be difficult to housebreak but it is not
impossible. I couldn't put myself through what you gals are
going through even for my skin kids! I have tile, lamanite
and carpeting throughout my home and Buddy runs free. He
was housetrained at 5mos. Since then he has never had an
accident in our home, only when he was sick once. Hats off to all of you because I have
no idea how you deal with this on a daily basis.

Angel is using wee wee pads as it is much too cold to introduce her to the outside right now (she was never outside till I brought her home with me 3 weeks ago). She does pretty good with the pads about 75% of the time. When I am home with her, we are in the office (bedroom that is carpeted) with the other upstairs doors closed. Her wee wee pads are on the hallway landing, which is Pergo.

The carpet in the office was already pretty trashed from my grown son who spilled rubber cement on it!! Plus, when the carpet was laid it was never stretch quite right, so there are several ripples in it. There is hard word underneath, but it isn't in great condition. We are definitely replacing this carpet once Angel is completely trained.

We have Pergo flooring in the Living Room, and tile in the kitchen. There are throw rugs in both rooms that occasionally get used as potty pads - but they are quickly machine washable.

When we replace the bedroom carpet, I am strongly considering carpet squares. This is what I have in my studio downstairs and I love it. Then, if we have any accidents, a square of carpet can be replaced.

My female is very good at going outside and lets us know when she needs to go outside.
My male on the other hand..............
He was perfect, got him at 6 weeks, very smart, potty trained right away, then momma didnt neuter him right away as I bought him for breeding (ended up deciding not to breed him) and he started marking everywhere.
I had him neutered but he is still marking. He is hard to catch. Also, he doesnt tell me when he needs to go out. I take them out frequently, but a lot of times it will be my son at home with them and being a teen, he just doesnt pay attention........

I think at this point locking him in a crate would just be cruel. He wouldnt understandy why his mommy was doing it. It would hurt my feelings to be mean to him. (yes, he gets away with murder around here).

Can you come live with me for however long it take PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEe!!!!

I have replaced my carpet several times w/rescue/foster dogs. I had a beagle pound pup that dug up most of our carpet that had only been down for 4months , when i came home to that , I was like Lord give me strength. A boston terrier I took in tried to make her own pet door thru the bathroom door, she was use to a crate & I called to ask my husband to let her out, he did -then left her out. I called to check up & he had been outside, I said you put the dog back up right? No:eek: I said where are you, get in there, I havent had her long enough to trust her, he said oh what could she do that any of the others hadnt. I said -RUN, We have half a bathroom door now,lol. We've replaced our carpet twice in 8 yrs due to pound puppies destroying it & a few doors, lots of trim, kitchen chairs.....I have slacked off on rescue because they broke my bank, I love helping but dont have time & organization to become nonprofit-no one wants to donate unless they can write it off on taxes & dont have the money to keep remodeling & caring for them out of pocket. Also they dug up our vinyl in the kitchen, so thats our next project. I havent fostered in awhile & this is why.
