Need Advice! Thinking of adding another pup to the family! Hi guys! I been going back and forth with the idea of getting a sister for Zeus for over a year now. He will be 4 years old in June and we just feel that he gets so bored and lonely. But, on the other hand, he is SPOILED and oh so territorial. Do you guys think that at his age, it would be a good idea to find a sister for him and if so, is it better to get a puppy or a slightly older yorkie?? I need help from my YT peeps!! :p |
Farrah, It's been long since I last saw you and Zeus girl. Hope I get to see you soon. With regard to your question, I opt for a puppy. As you know, I have added a few since we last met. I think it is great for you to get a female yorkie and I hope that Zeus will agree. That is so exciting. Feel free to PM me. There is a young handler who is handling Darwin for me and these classes are in Cary, so would love to see you if you are available. |
Maria, it is so nice to hear from you!! Yes, you have added onto your beautiful family. Is Patton doing ok with all the changes?? I am just so worried that Zeus won't like me sharing my time with another, he is such a spoiled little boy! :p I would love to meet up with you guys sometime, can't wait to see all your little ones! :) |
We just got Max 3 weeks ago. Max is now 15 weeks. Piper loves him, she is 11 months. Misha hates him, she is 16 months. I don't think it matters on the size. If he is spoiled, it will just take time for him to adjust. I'm sure a little sister will be fun for him. |
I got Pixie a few weeks ago because I wanted to have 2 Yorkies, I also have a pom, abd I thought Cali would like a playmate since she always wants to be by my pom who doesn't like to be bothered. But I guess I was wrong, Cali isn't real happy with Pixie, They are starting to play/fight but Pixie is pretty rough and Cali is a very quiet laid back girl. I love having her and I hope Cali grows to love her. I am glad I got an older puppy, Pixie is 13 months old and Cali is 20 months old, I think a puppy would have been too much for Cali. I think it depends on the dogs personalities but others with more experience say they eventually grow to love each other. |

we've had success adding a second yorkie We got Sophie in November, thinking the same thing...that our one year old Topher was lonely and bored. It was the best decision that we've ever made. They do have their moments when they fight over toys (Topher likes to think that all of the toys should be HIS so there's usually a squabble when the toys are hauled out) :) But Sophie stands her ground.....even though the size difference between them is huge. Topher is around 12lbs and Sophie is 3.5lbs! For the most part, they get along so well....Sophie is Topher's little shadow. It sure brings alot of joy to my heart when I see them snuggled up to one another or when Topher is cleaning Sophie's face in the morning. I find that it's really not any more work having two..actually, if anything, it's a bit less 'cause they do entertain one another. Good luck with your decision. You'll find that you have lots of love in your heart for another pup and the joy that you experience is X2! |
We got Jewel when Jazzie was 5 years-old and believe me Jazzie was a very spoiled girl. She adjusted to Jewel in no time. After Jewel passed away we spoiled her even more lavishing her with love and giving in to almost every whim. We just recently added 2 girls to our family and Jazzie took to them immediately! Jazzie is 9 yrs now and acts like she's a puppy again. It was the best thing to do - the 2 babies made everyone in our home so happy! As long as Zeus is not aggressive around other dogs, he should be just fine with a new sister! - Go Get Her! |
I just added Venus last summer. I've had Adonis almost 6 years. They get along great, and have from day 1. |

I came to look on here as i'm facing the same situation so was about to post a similar question. Only my little one is even older, she's almost 12. These last six years are the only time in my life I've had just one dog & I'm getting broody for a puppy, but am concerned how she'll accept one now. When she first came as a puppy, I had six other dogs, all much bigger than her, but she wasn't averse to picking a fight with them ! Luckily they were placid & ignored her antics. Now that she's older she's mellowed & is friends with 3 other dogs that visit, one a yorkie. My husband has offered to get me a puppy & I'd dearly love one, but am nervous of how it would turn out. |
It' so nice to hear that so many of you have had great experiences with this. I just want my little Zeus to be as happy as possible and I really think he would love having another to play with. I guess I won't know until we try. |
