I need your opinion on traveling vs. doggie hotel I have a business trip coming up end of next month. Momiji never stayed anywhere else but my apartment.... I am torn between bring her with me or leave her at the doggie hotel. Doggie hotel will be good for her so she doesn't have to go through the stress of flying. Bring with me is good so she will be with me every day. I'm going to Baltimore from California for 4 nights. What should I do????? My feeling is going back and forth between take her and leave her..... Please help!!! |

Yes definitely I'll have a practice overnight at the doggie hotel before I go on business trip. If I take her with me, I'll come back for lunch and keep her company. But at this point, I think I should leave her at doggie hotel if she does well on the practice stay..... |
i DEFINITLY wouldn't keep her in the hotel.. maid service has full access to your room and therefore your pup.. i'd HATE to hear that anything happened.. i think the doggy hotel would be safest! |
I would do a trial run at the doggie hotel and if all goes well and she seems to like it then I'd leave her there and think of it as 4 days of special pampering:) |
I would do a test run at a doggie hotel and if it goes well, I'd choose that route. I am taking Maggie with me, to stay in a hotel, from VA to Indianapolis, but only because I'm going for almost 3 weeks. It seems that for four nights it would be a lot of stress to fly cross country. Just my opinion. |

Hmmm...I always opt to take Vixxen with me because she is SO attached. She makes herself sick when I'm not there. So I always feel that even if I cant stay with her all day in the hotel or bring her with me, at least she will be able to sleep with me and Iknow that comforts her. I always stay at a doggie approved hotel and tell the front desk "NO maid service" along with the do not disturb sign :D |
If you cant take her everywhere on your trip you'll have to do something else because you cant leave her in the room, I work at a hotel & if a dog is left we have to call a kennel to come get them-not saying you were going to but just so you know but if you can take her w/you everywhere then bring her. As long as your dog likes to socialize a pet hotel is a Option, just take her bed, bowls, fave toys/blankies so she feels at home. How about a friend that would stay at your apt w/her? |

I have spent many nights in several different hotels in Baltimore and honestly I would not leave my dog in a room there alone for any period of time. I am sorry to say that as I love Baltimore, its just not the place to leave a small dog alone. It is definitely not known for being pet friendly. Also if you take your pet definately register it & ask for a room in a back corner or as far away from doors, vending machine, elevator & other guests to avoid extra noise that might cause barking. If your dog is crate trained & away from those things it cant scratch on the door & no one may hear the barking so it could be ok for a short time. So what ya gonna do?? |
I think it will all depend on the hotels policy. I was a manager at a pet friendly hotel for over 4 years and would probably have gotten fired if I had a kennel pick up a guests dog without their knowing of it. If we had the guests phone number we would call them, and possibly move surrounding guest if it was a bother. If your still considering the hotel you could call ahead of time so your well aware of how they would handle the situation. Either way Im sure everything will be just fine, the practice night at the doggie hotel sounds like a good idea too. Then you can talk to the people after and find out how your baby managed. My first choice would be to hire a house/pet sitter to come stay at your home so your pup can stay in familiar surroundings. It will be hard enough on him not seeing you for four days. If that's not possible, then you might want to consider taking him with you and putting him in a doggie daycare in Baltimore while you can't be with him. That way, he'll be in good hands from the time he leaves your hands until you get him back. He can still be with you all evening and night and you could come and get him for a walk at luchtime. That's what I would try to do. I truely wish you luck! Also, make sure he flies in the cabin with you and not in baggage hold. |

Thanks all. If I was going to take Momiji with me to the trip, I was going to stay at pet friendly hotel and find daycare for her during a day. I don't like to have pet sitter at my apartment. I just don't like the idea of stranger staying my place.... So I think I will find a nice doggie hotel here in SF. I have 2 places I would like to check it out. Since Momiji is so small, I am little concerned about leaving her with other larger dogs. Momiji is in process of socialization and she is doing very good!!! But I'm such a concerned mom.... Momiji is soooo sweet to other dogs even they are mean to her. You know what.... I just thougth about it. I'll ask my breeder if she can wacth her while I'm gone???? I can trust her she will take good care of her!!! What do you think??? |
I think that is a good idea. My breeder told me she would board mine if i ever went away too but she is two hours away ffrom me. My groomer will keep her clients ogs so we have her keep them and they are kept in her house. I like that better than a boarding facility where they are around other strange dogs |
I just emailed my breeder if she can watch her for 4 nights. I hope she will say yes!!!! Even though she is 1 1/2 hours away from where I live... I'd rather leave her with my breeder than at facilities with so many other dogs.... (And larger breed... She get pick on all the time.... They think she is a squeaky toy...) :( |

I hope your breeder says yes. That would be ideal. I have to go to a small town near Baltimore this weekend and am taking Max with me. I'm driving so that's not a problem, but I am really nervous about leaving him in a hotel while I'm at my cousin's wedding. It's a pet friendly hotel, but I'm not happy about it. Anyone could come in and take him. I can't stay at their homes because I'm in the middle of retraining Max after he began marking in the house. My cousin's all have dogs and cats of their own and I'm afraid that if I break his training mode with all those distractions, I'll have to start all over again. To tell you the truth, I wish I didn't have to go to the wedding at all because of Max. Judy |
