Does not want to be held!!
 

Bitsy is now 14 weeks old and have had her since 10 weeks. Was such a loving puppy until about a week ago and now does not want to be held. She will lay in the floor at my feet or just about a foot away from me on the sofa but will not stay on my lap or be held in my arms at all. Phase she is going through? Too much to see and explore??? Loves to rough house with our other dogs (Min-Pins) and can go in and out of the doggie door at will. Does not like to go out when it is dark and goes potty on the puppy pad about 5:00 a.m. She sleeps in the kennel at night and has since I brought her home. The rest of the time she goes out the doggy door by herself . Very impressed!!! Should I cut down on her play time with the other dogs or will she outgrow this puppy energy phase? The Min-Pins are very attached to my husband and tolerate me and that is why I wanted the new puppy so she would be more of a lap dog. Any input??? Thank you!!!

I have a 15 week old that is acting the same. I wish I had advice but I don't.
I am hoping it is the age.

Hope this is just a phase. I am the one to discipline her and I think she is giving me a payback!!! She nips at the back legs of the smaller Min-Pin and torments her. This Min-Pin weighs 16 pounds and Bitsy just goes under her legs and nips. Any suggestions how to curb this? Feeling sad that she does not want to be held!

Does she not want to be held at all? Does she come sit by you or anything like that? Lily will not let me hold her like she used to but still jumps up to sit by me. For the second question about nipping. She could be trying to be alpha over this dog. Make sure everyone knows that YOU are alpha. Come to think of it she may also trying to be alph with you too. She sounds real spunky!! :p

My six month old, Oscar, is starting to go through an independent stage. To establish myself as the alpha one of the things I do is hold him down on his back (on the carpet) for about 30 seconds. I don't let him get up until he relaxes. After several days of doing this he is being more accepting of it. I also make him wait to go through a door until I've gone first. It sounds like your puppy is trying to be the alpha. :aimeeyork

I think it's a phase. Leila was never a lap dog until she was about a year old, now she's totally into snuggling.

I agree with the above posts on alpha dogs as well. Az jude, don't worry, this stage will pass. Bo went thru it and now, at 6 months he will come and lay by us again. I know exactly how you feel. It hurt my feelings so because I wanted a lap dog too. But in the last 2 weeks Bo has become very loving. Don't get me wrong, he's still a brat and a feisty butt, he terrorizes our 8 year old Schnauzer, and they play a lot, but he also comes and lays on our feet or lets me hold him awhile. Just continue to love on him as much as you can.

I had one that didnt like to be held either, now she is 11 mths and cant seem to keep her off me always by my feet or on my lap, she is still very ambitious and her energy level has exceded the others, mine are all very attached to me but loves to lay with our kids and be held too.from them

It's a stage many adolescent dogs go through usually between 12 -18 months of age at the same time they seem to forget all idea of obeying recall etc not much you can do about it just give them a little space and go back to training them again. They do come though it it just takes a little time and patience.

Jack only lays by us when HE wants to, and that is only when he is very tired. He is 7 months old today, and is so independent he should have been a cat.
Last night he just wouldn't settle down in bed, he was jumping all over my husband, and trying to dig the covers off of us, until my husband sat up, looked him right in the face and said "ENOUGH". It was so funny, Jack walked to the end of the bed, layed down and went to sleep. Who'd have thunk it?

It is probably a phase . I have 3 girls and only one don't want to be held . No
matter what if held she will try to escape , she sits with me , ask for her walks . I have learned to live with that fact . The two others , I call them my shadows . I love the three the same .

I love my little pixie so much that ive made her so use to all love i give her. Is 18 weeks . Ive also been sleeping with her and now she knows that im mommy well some what. I felt thats the way i have gotten personal with her. And you have to play with it at least once a day.

I also think it's just a phase your baby is going through. Both Pookie and Boo Boo were very affectionate as young puppies, became more independent for a while and then went back to being very affectionate. Just give it some time.

I think its a phase also. My girl is the same age and is being a little more independent as she is learning to go up/down stairs and other new things. She will be back to her normal cuddly self soon. My male was never a cuddler and he still isn't so thats why I think its there personality if they are or aren't.

Mia's 3 years old now and very independant. When she was younger, she would sleep on our lap, but now...no way. She does like to lie down next to you or at your feet, but she does not like to be held at all. AND she likes to cuddle more next to my husband than me. I don't like that one bit, but I think that she thinks if she cuddles next to me, I will start brushing her or clean her eyes (she does not like that very much). Of course, I am the one that does most of the brushing and cleaning (stuff that she hates) so my husband looks like the good guy and me the bad guy. Also, she loves to get kisses when I get home from work or when she wakes up in the morning, but only for a few minutes, it's playtime after that. Although in the morning, she loves to get her massage and she could stay in bed for a while. And when she's sleeping, she does not like to be touched, she will move from her spot to another one so she won't be disturbed. BUT whether she likes it or not, I have to give her lots of kisses ALL DAY. My husband says that she really loves our kisses, she just doesn't want us to know that. Don't get me wrong, when she feels like it she will come and give me free kisses for no reason at all, it just depends on her mood I guess.

The reason why I want to get another Yorkie is in hopes that the next one will be more affectionate. I would love for my dog to cuddle with me. :(
