yorkie or silky 2 Attachment(s) Hi, My friend has this yorkie that weighed about 16 lbs. Teddy is the most adorable dog there is. I never thought about getting a dog but Teddy is so adorable that I am actually thinking of getting a yorkie myself. I did lots of researches, and seemed to come to the conclusion that Teddy is probably a silky instead of yorkie. I'd like to know because whatever Teddy's breed is, that's the breed I'd like to get. Teddy was tiny ( 1 lb) like a yorkie when he was a baby (12 weeks), but he grows really fast. He's currently 2 1/2 year old and weigh about 16 lbs. I've included Teddy's baby picture and recent picture. I'd appreciate everyone's comment. Thanks. |

what a pretty dog .... amazing how the coloring changed .... I cannot help you identify the breed, but I'd go to where your friend got the dog .... and then you will get as close to the type of dog you want .... Good Luck! Hez a cutie alrighty! |

I have a yorkie (fully registered with the appropriate authorities - so he's 100% all yorkie) who's a 13.5 lbs - and there's no fat on my boy. There are a few yorkies on this site that are around the 16lbs mark I believe. What does it for me is the face. A yorkie has a "doll" or "teddy bear" like face whereas a silkie - which are more common in NZ than yorkies because they were originally bred in neighbouring Australia - has a longer face that says "dog" to me much more than a yorkie does. I know that's a really subjective measure. But if you put the two side by side you'd see a real difference in the muzzle, ears and face. Silkies look much more like their Australian Terrier relatives just with a soft yorkie coat - Silkies were original 50% yorkie 50% Aussie. A square-er face. Teddy looks like a yorkie to me. Hope that helps. |

He looks like a yorkie to me but I'm no expert  |

It is difficult to tell from pictures alone. Study the muzzle length, the head shape and then make comparisons such as this site shows: http://silkyterrierclubofamerica.org/comparison.htm Size alone can't make the determination. Just on this site, you will see tiny under-2 pound Yorkies as well as some up in the teens. From hearing the owners describe their babies, it seems the most common characteristic is the loving nature of the breed. Good luck on your selection! Buy from a reputable breeder. There are many here on YT. If you ask for a general area, someone will probably have a good referral for you if you decide on a Yorkshire Terrier. I don't think you could ever go wrong with a Yorkie! One more note -- the dog in your picture has her ears down. If you want that look, do not shave the puppies ears. Look for puppies with a heavier ear, let them stay full of hair and they will be likely to droop. It is not the breed standard -- but many love the look. |

Hes very cute. He looks yorkie to me and i just wanted to let you know we have an 18 lb yorkie on here and he is gorgeous |

i like the advice of going where your friend got Teddy. If that is not an option, I would just check local yorie breeders and if you are wanting a bigger yorkie...just start asking the breeders if they have any large yorkies. then just go with your gut...if you meet a pup and bond with him..it won't matter if he is silky or yorkie. you will have the pup you were able to bond with. i'll warn you, yorkie or silky...these pups are heart stealers. you will fall in love with them all :) there is nothing quite as irresistable as a yorkie pup :) good luck!! |

He looks totally like a yorkie to me. |

You can have DNA test done. It costs around $ 50 in Canada. It will tell you EXACTLY what kind of a dog you have. |

Oh, he DOES look like a sweetheart! His precious little face does have the yorkie look. If you are interested in getting a larger sized yorkie like this, I strongly urge you to check out "Petfinder". There are lots of GORGEOUS larger sized yorkies in shelters and foster care, with hearts full of love, just waiting for their forever homes to come along! |
