We are staying in a HOTEL with our puppy... for 3 nights. We are meeting with some people only 1/2 hour after we get to the hotel. So I have a few questions: 1) are puppies (12 1/2 wks old) scared when they go to new places like a hotel? Do they adjust to new places easily? 2) Since the only time they could make reservations is about 1/2 hr after we get there, will Scruffy handle that fine? I was thinking we would let him run around the room as soon as we get there, and put out his familiar 'stuff' (ex-pen, toys, food etc...) any other suggestions for you hotel people?? THANKS!!!!! Then again, he might be just fine left alone or locked in the bathroom. Good luck. |
Thanks!!! Yes, I was going to leave him in his crate, which he is used to AT HOME for up to 3.5 hours (although the time we are going out isn't a NORMAL time for him to sleep for any long period!?!?) and FORTUNATELY he really hasn't found his bark yet ( but wouldn't you know he will probably find it next week while we are at the hotel:p ) but he does whine and whimper, but I am hoping that if no one answers his whines he stops??? (I don't know because I am never home when he's crated???) Yes it's a pet friendly place, I am not brave enough yet to try that............that will come later once I get to know his disposition at hotels....he's probably going to turn into this terror dog;) Thanks for your advice!!!!! |
That seems reasonable, then. Whines from a puppy aren't as bad as a bark. You'll probably be just fine. As for the sleep schedule, just try to get him some exercise beforehand or at least keep him awake during the car ride. Dogs are pretty good at sleeping when they're bored, especially if they're tuckered out. |
Turn the tv on and put the do not disturb sign out. The dog will adjust since he already is used to his crate. |
I would put the puppy in a crate with a toy and nyla-bone or kong, cover the crate so he can't see out, turn the TV on low, maybe on animal planet. |
what great advice ... Quote:
Thatz why I love this forum ... |
Aww, Scruffy should be just fine. You're bringing his "home" with you, the crate. I'd take him for a long walk when you arrive, he'll be pooped out and not need to potty either:D Good luck, don't forget to tell us how it went! I'll be watching this thread myself for tips, as we'll be taking Izzy and Luna to the Hard Rock in Hollywood FL soon:D YEAH BABY! :D |
Lots of good tips have already been given! We have stayed in lots of hotels with Toto. The first thing I do before I let Toto on the floor is check the entire floor, especially under the edge of the bedspread, for stuff that housekeeping overlook! You would be surprised .... chips, paperclips, safety pins, etc. get pushed under drapes, beds, tables ... any little nook or crannie! Also, when your baby is free to play in the room, please, please be careful of the door being opened and closed! Before we learned any better, Toto ran out into the hallway and she almost got squashed once because the automatic door closer closed too quickly! After awhile we learned all the little dangers and pretty much have a routine .... while Patrick is bringing up luggage, I "police" the room!! Good luck! ;) |
That's an AWESOME tip, Bettyanne! Thank you:kiss:!!! We stayed at a hotel with Starr and found M & M's under the bed:eek: Luckily we found them first:laugh: |
Super TIPS!!! Thanks so much for all the tips, ideas and suggestions!!! Thats why I love this forum, and am SOOOO glad I found it!!!! He isn't a big fan of his leash yet, but if he doesn't have a driveway to turn into:p , he should be just fine. I think I will have my hubby drop us off at the bottom of the hill to the hotel, and we will walk the rest of the way up. Thanks so much, keep the ideas coming, they are ALL great!!! We are staying Friday, Sat. and Sun. next week, so I will let ya'll know how it went!! |
I have a couple of things to add to these great ideas: *Take along some water from home or use bottled water. Changes in drinking water can adversely affect a dog's GI tract- not what you want when traveling. * When I travel with my boys, I always take along a bottle of Resolve pet carpet cleaner along in case of an accident. Never had to use it, but nice to have just in case. * Put the Do Not Disturb sign up when you leave. I leave my dogs out in hotel rooms since they are never kenneled and they would freak if I did it on trips. I do move the furniture around using a table and chair to block off entrance to the door, so if someone did come in the dogs wouldn't bolt out the door. I would still use the sign if they were kenneled. |
