Fresh Little Ears
 
Can anybody advise me on how to keep Maggie's ear smelling fresh and clean. I bath her every week. She had a bath this morning and I can already smell her ears. She doesn't have mites, doesn't scratch, ears are clean. I clean them with cotten balls. To me they just smell like ear wax. Thanks

There's special solution you can squirt into their ears to keep their ears clean and fresh. We use this blue solution called Nolva-Cleanse, which has been working great for Yoda! :)

It sounds a little strange, but my cousin cleans her dogs ears with Listerine. It's a holistic method. I am thinking about Googling this to find out the logic behind it. Her breeder raises all of her dogs/puppies holistically, and gave them this and many other interesting remedies. I in no way endorse this method because I don't know enough about it, but it's an inexpensive method that has worked for another dog owner.

I'll let you know if I find anything out about this.

My vet told me to wet a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol and clean out the ear...he said just don't dig too deep with it...I did that and it seemed to work, but now that Maddie's older...8 months...she doesn't seem to have that trouble anymore.

I use Petkin Deodorizing Ear Wipes from Petsmart. They do a great job. :)

Listerine and rubbing alcohol will dry the ear out too much. Fasteddie has the solution reccomendation that I was going to suggest. A cotton ball and some solution on it will keep the ear smell down. If she has a lot of hair in her ears that could hold and odor too so you might want to pluck that hair.

Otherwise if no solution is on hand you can use peroxide. It doesn't dry the ear out.

I would like to thank everyone for their input. My nose thanks you and Maggie thanks you too. At least now I know I'm not the only one that can smell the stinky on these babies.
