Sometimes I wonder if Luna has brain damage:( She spent so much time in a hypoglycemic state when we got her, it was SO hard to finally get some food into her until we got some help from a great breeder. Anyway, the reason I think she might have something wrong with her, is that she SPINS like a top whenever we get near her. ONLY to the left:confused: Like Zoolander, only she can only turn left:p It worries me though. Anyone know if this is normal? I've never seen a dog spin the way she does. |
I just had to comment that my toy poodle did that.... always spinning to the left. It was his way of expressing his excitement. Even after he lost sight in his left eye in an accident (he got a false one), he still would spin to the left. He would occasionally hit something since he couldn't see it coming but he was normal and I bet yours is just fine too. If you see other worrisome signs though I would definitely have a talk with the vet. |
Cesar Milan did an episode of a dog that was constantly spinning but I forget why she was doing it all the time..I think it was stopped with lots and lots of walking of the dog...try more excercise..maybe its pent up energy?? Dawn |
I saw something on the dog whisperer.. it COULD be nuerological.. but it could also be excitement and energy. I'd check w/your vet to rule out any problems. |
Well, it's about time to think about getting her spayed:eek:, so I'll ask the vet about it when I talk to him. I do hope it's just excess energy, she seems to have it to spare! She's a real fireball:laugh: |

Tracy, Muffin does the exact same thing except she spins to the right! How funny is that? She does it whenever we try to put her leash on or pick her up. (It is SO helpful when we're trying to go somewhere) So maybe Luna & Muffin could start a spinning class or something. :) CJ |

I read somewhere that puppies that were raised in cages do that. I don't know if that's true but wondered where you got your pups and if that could be true?? |

Muffin didn't spin when we first got her. (She was 11 weeks old.) She started when she figured out there was a good chance something "fun" was going to happen. She'll be 10 next month & she is still at it. :) It never occured to me that it was anything other than excitement! |
Well, CJ that makes me feel much better:D Thanks:love: How's Ms. Muffin doing tonight? |
How old is Luna? It sounds like a few members have had this experience with their pups and there was nothing wrong, just an excitement thing! However, someone mentioned neurological----I have a sick Maltese. She was fine for almost her entire first year and then started weird things-circling, bumping into things. We did so many tests and nothing. Finally went to a neurologist and did an MRI revealing she has hydrocephalas - water on the brain. We were devistated! Anyway, he condition continues to worsen as she gets older. She is only 3 now. She seizures because of this illness and the bumping into things is because she cannot see. She has good eyes but that doesn't matter as the water on the brain puts pressure on the optic nerve and she cannot see!! It has been a very consuming 3 years to say the least. We love her dearly and the doctor doesn't think she is suffering so we give her medicine 2 times a day and try to love her when she'll let us - which isn't much. She doesnt like attention much. Anyway, I'm turning this into "all about me" and I am only trying to let you know what COULD be out there - because we were clueless and so was our vet until we saw the specialist.... keep us posted k?? |
I would definitely agree if little Luna is displaying any behaviors other than spinning, it could be something other than excitement. Like you said, you'll be talking to your vet about spaying, so you can definitely ask about it then. :) I'm grateful Muffin's spinning ways are nothing than her being the weird little puppy that she is! CJ P.S. Muffin seems to be doing good Tracy! She tires a bit more easily, but she is excited to play & run around like her crazy old self. :confuse2: Thank heavens! Gotta love her. :2hearts2: |
spinning I have 7 yorkies and 2 out of the 7 are spinners. I think it is just some small dog thing or something.:D I also work at a vets office and see lots of spinners there and they all seem to be the small breeds. My daughter used to have a pom, she named him Twister, hmmm, wonder why that name? ;) |
