Is it safe for my yorkie to travel? Hi everyone! I need some advice. I'm going to travel to europe for about 11 days and the flight is 6 1/2 hours there and 7 on the way back. I really would like to take my yorkie with me so i don't have to worry about leaving him behind with someone else or boarding him. I'm just afraid that that is too much flying at once and the flight is too long. Has anyone ever flown with their yorkie for this long, and how was your experience? I need as much advice as possible because i'm really unsure of what to do. Thanks in advance for your help! |

I am a flight attendant for UAL! The rule is that your dog must be kept in the carrier at all times while onboard. Having said that, I am one of those flight attendants that will 'see no evil' when I see pax with their pets! BUT I work with a lot of FAs who become very militant about the rule. And it is our job to enforce the rules after all. We travelled to Europe with our Molly about a half a dozen times, as far as Finland which required connections that had us in transit over 24 hours. Our Molly Muffins (God rest her soul) was a wonderful traveler! Our vet did not recommend any sedatives. We just would not feed her food or water after midnight. We would give her ice chips to lick onboard, and sometimes about an hour before landing we would offer bits of food. Once in Europe, we had a fantastic time! And so did Molly! Try to get your baby used to the sherpa bag ahead of time. Put treats inside and let them become comfortable hanging out in it at home. Bon Voyage! |
let me ask you this, i just got coco via plane....delta stated they do not allow dogs on board if they have a sedative. is this true??? maybe different airlines have different rules? |

I did put her away when they were serving food:p I did have to get a sherpa bag and got Tinkerbell used to it 2 months ahead of time, she did great in it. Like I said before I did take her out for hours and she sleep on my lap:rolleyes:. Oh yeah no seditives either!!! |
I don't know about Delta's regulations. All the airlines vary the rules a bit. Tink's mom~~~ I must confess that once returning from Frankfurt, I held Molly on my lap under a blanket all the ay home!! LOL. I was stuck in a middle seat on the B777 (5 seats across) in coach, or the village as we like to call it! None of the crew had clue! I know it's terrible for me to break the rules I am supposed to enforce. That was the only time Molly flew coach! Usually she got First Class! |

Your Welcome! I agree, our pups need some comfort from us along the way. IMO most dogs are better travelers than many people. I always get excited when I know we will have pets in the cabin. Although, twice now, I have had cat owners fall asleep on the way to Tokyo, and leave the bag open enough for the cats to get loose in the cabin. Everyone was sleeping, and there go us FAs with our flash lights trying to catch a cat!!!! Of course, the cat upgraded cabins-LOL! |

I'm brand new to this site....so, hello, yorkie lovers like myself! Have been reading about traveling by plane with them. My question-- has anyone flown with their yorkie to Hawaii. We are moving there and all I can find out is that they must be "checked" in their crate and CANNOT fly in the cabin. Any thoughts or experiences with this? I'm a nervous wreck.! |
You might want to check the rules, but I dont think you are allowed to bring pets into Hawaii (or maybe the rules are stricter). American Airlines states this: No carry-on pets to/from Hawaii or Transatlantic/Transpacific or Central and South America. |
just read the entire post...oops, you aren't carrying in cabin. Anyway, just make sure you arent going when its super hot...it gets really hot under the plane. |
You can take dogs to Hawaii, but they have a few weeks quaranteen. Welcome Roccos Mom. We Californian's must plan a get together. :D |
