To buy or not to buy? Help! I just found someone that bought a Yorkie on the spur of the moment. Here is the info they gave me. She is 4lbs at 4 months old. They bought her at a pet store (yuck) but feel they can not give her the attention she deserves. She is able to be registered ACA (??). She is healthy and very active. She is approx. 16" long and 10-12" tall to the tip of her head. They are looking to find her a home soon. They are asking $650 but I talked them down to $500. Her ears do not stand all the way up. They fold over at the tips. IS this something I should do? How big do you think she will be? I feel so sorry for her. She is crated all day and the guy said when they let her out when they get home, she goes crazy and it is too much for them to handle. There kids are grown and they bought her on a whim. HELP!! |
Sounds like a bargain to me. I'm thinking she would be about 10 lbs, which isn't really very big. She's healthy and she would be sturdy and it sounds like she has a playful personality. You can shave the tips of her ears and if they don't stand with just that being done, you could tape them for a few days. I would see nothing wrong with her and she does need a loving home.:D |
I am not going to be breeding, so the size really doesn't matter. I have one Yorkie at 12 lbs and 1 at 5 lbs. I just feel so sorry for her. Do you think that $500 is too much? Around here (Southern Indiana) Yorkie's are usually around $500-1000 for a female. |
Awww she sounds precious!! I hope you get her. That poor little girl must be so sad in that crate all day, then ignored at night. :( |
Because she came from a petstore there is no telling where she came from or how big she will get. You could ask them but I doubt they know the size of her parents. Being that she is 4 pounds at 4 months, I would guess she would be at least 7 pounds. Of course, weight with yorkies is all relative, some have growth spurts in the beginning and then stop others just keep on growing and growing. Did they tell you whether or not she had any kind of health guarantee? That is something you'll need to think about, not saying al lpet shop pups are unhealthy but a lot of them are because they come from puppy mills. So, even if you get her for a good price now she could end up costing you a fortune in medical bills...or she could be perfectly fine, not knowing her genetic health in her family makes you have to take that risk. It's really up to you, what kind of yorkie you are looking to get. for 300-500 dollars more you could get a champion sired yorkie within the standard meaning, ears erect, most likely guaranteed to be under 7 pounds, etc. It's hard though, I've never been good at deciding things like that though, it's a lose, lose situation. I can't go into pet shopes because I want to buy all the poor dogs there and take them home! I'll say one thing and then you'll see one that's the completel and total opposite of what you wanted and fall in love with it. If I were you, I'd go see her if at all possible and let your heart decide on what you should do. If you really feel that she's the one then I am sure everything else will find a way of working itself out... Sorry I couldn't be of more help... Joy |

Unfortunately, soon a lot of pets go up for sale. People buy them around the holidays and then can't keep them. I think it's a good price........I vote get her. |
This is so hard for me. I am too kind hearted. My finance and I have been discussing getting another Yorkie, but we wanted one with a health guarantee and good registration. Lucy, my first Yorkie is not at all what we were told. She is CKC. Abby my second Yorkie is perfect, but not registered. I just don't know what to do.......It really scares me that I have no records of her history. The guy said that her shots were up to date, but I am not sure if he has record. There is just so much I do not know that it makes me leary..... I could go and look at her, but I know if I do she will come home with me lol. |

yorkie You do not find many, if any Yorkeis with a good health guarantee and registry for $500. Rescues can charge as much as $400 in some areas...so I would seriously consider her a rescue IMO... |
i hope everything works out for you. yorkies in my area are 1200.00. you just need to make sure she is healthy |
Go with your heart ( after you see her) Good luck :) |
