what age did you spay ---? what is a good age for spaying, ??? my vet said 4mo's but this little wild puppy is going to have a hard time NOT jumping, playing -flying-tee hee. She is about ready in the next week or so-she just seems so little, she is my little baby right now and I can't imagine them operating on her :( she also has a hernia they are going to fix at the same time.... |
Sissy was 6 1/2 months old and barely 3 lbs when she was spayed. Now that I know tiny yorkies tend to have their first heat later, I will wait with Angel till she about 8-9 months and then if any baby teeth need to come out they can do both at the same time. Please make sure you do the pre-op blood work to make sure she is healthy before the spaying is done. |
what is all involved w/the pre op bloodwork? i didnt do it w/my other dog b/c it was a little more $.... ? |

The bloodwork is just a blood test to show levels in the blood checking for liver functions, blood platelet count etc. I just had Sawyers done yesterday and his nutering will be done tomorrow. it was around 60 dollars, but I would definetly have it done. Especially as your baby is small and young. it insures that she will not have trouble with the anesthic. As she will have two procedures done, I would make sure it is done. It may cost a little more, but it is the one thing you can do for her as you can't do the actual surgery. I have heard so many times of things found in advance of surgery that may have saved a puppies life. That is just my opinion, I am sure your little wildcat will do just fine.:thumbup: |
Thanks for starting this thread. I have an appointment for Chloe to be spayed next week, and she will be 5 months exactly then. However, I kinda feel funny about it. I'm not even sure I want to have her spayed. I keep hearing differing opinions about it. As far as her baby teeth are, she's lost all but two of her top and bottom from teeny teeth, and new ones are already growing in. What about the canine teeth (I know, she's a dog; all her teeth are canine LOL) do those fall out too? Those haven't gone yet. |

We won't spay a puppy or kitten before 6 months. Blood work is always a good idea, tho we really stress it when an animal is older and has to be anesthasized cause there are so many more things that can go wrong as we get older. And we would rather they go thru with whatever surgery they need than say "forget it I can't afford the bloodwork and the surgery". It's all about persoanl choices I guess, tho we always advise lab work beforehand. |
Katie, my first furbaby, was almost 8 months old when she was spayed. Gabby was 6 months old and Gage was a little over a year old. Had no problems with any of them. Best of luck to you! |
Venus was 6 months to the day with spaying. She did just fine, althought that first night I brought her home she was still a lot out of it. But they told me to expect that. She was back to her normal self the next day. |
