MAJOR problem... wet poops for a month My york is 10 months old... around 7 months old she was spayed. A month ago she started waking up in the middle of the night 2 or 3 times and just pooping everywhere. The poops were wet, but mostly tubular. I took her to the vet and we tried everything. For about a week her poops were fine, but they are now becoming wet again. There were no parasites found in her sample, but she was still given deworming stuff. She was also given flagyl (sp?) for a week along with I-D bland canned food. Well I can't think of why her poops will not be solid, but this is a MAJOR problem as I am not sleeping and she is messing up the carpets. The only possible thing I may ask now is after a spaying, be it 3 months after, are you supposed to feel scar tissue where the stitches were internally? It feels hard, like the stitches are possibly still in her, but I'm hoping that is just scar tissue. Could it be the vet wasn't paying attention and used non-dissolving stitches and this is what is causing her wet poops? I have no idea anymore what is causing this but it is driving me to the point of insanity. Please help if you can, I'd greatly appreciate it. |
As far as teh scar tissue /internal stitches, I know it took months for Cali's to disappear. As far as the loose stool maybe it is what she is eating. I give them ground beef mixed with rice to help firm up the stools. Maybe another trip to the vet or another vet for a second opinion. |
anyone else?? I'm really worried, should I try another vet? She acts totally fine and is still very active. Right now we are feeding Science Diet Puppy (hard food). She has been on that her whole life, could she just be rejecting it all of a sudden and time to find something better? |
Have you tried adding a smidge of yogurt to her food. If she lost some of her good bacteria with the wet poops, she might need to get that back. I've been putting a small blop of the Horizon organic yogurt on chloe's food and she loves it. We had the opposite problem--rock hard poops. Now her poop is about normal. |
I've tried rice, canned food, didn't really help.... You think it's a food problem?? |
Worming has to be done but is very hard on them plus if she was on antibiotics after the spay. Try yogurt I buy th estore brand strawberry-seems to have less sugar. Give her a few spoon fulls everyday until she stops. You might see a difference in ajust a couple. It wont hurt to continue giving it, its very beneficial. Hope she gets better soon. |

Once Monday got on dry food, her poops were firm ... after she got spayed - she rejected the dry food b/c the vet "spoiled" her and gave her canned food ... If I ever have a pup spayed again, I would insist that they do NOT give her wet canned food .... try dry food and smash it into granulated --pieces if that is easier for her. Good luck! I sure hope your baby starts to feel better soon. I'm sorry I don't have any advice about the poopy but my Trixie still has hard spots where she was cut from the spay. She was spayed last summer and they are still there. I was so nervous over them and pretty much thinking the same things as you. I made an appointment to see the vet and as soon as she felt it she told me it was normal. Wish she would have told me that before and saved me the $50, LOL!!! She actually said that her dog still has the hard spots and its been years. It kinda makes me nervous and I wish they didn't use those type of stitches but nothing I can do about it now. Anyways, thought I'd tell that your little girl is probably not having the runs due to that. Good Luck to you. I sure hope your little one gets better soon. |

Also, keep in mind that things like coccidia don't always show up on the fecal exam. Sometimes it takes a while for it to show under the microscope. Ask the vet if you should be giving albon just in case, it won't hurt the pup if it's not coccidia but it will sure as heck help if it is! We find this to be the case at work, and my boss says it just takes time for it to show sometimes! |
She eats her hard food just fine... a lot of it... I was jsut wondering if he could suddenly become sick because of it... although she acts totally normal... same feeding amount, water, energy, etc. I am happy to report that she did sleep through the night and had a very hard poop this morning. Hopefully she is getting over all this. Thanks! |
