Micro Chip or not I am thinking of getting my girls micro chip.. I have read in's amd out's.. They say that most thiefs can remove them. Anyone have other info or regrets |
To me, it's like having a little more insurance. If a thief is going to break into your house, he's going to break into your house. Plain and simple. You can lock the doors, lock the windows and if he REALLY wants in, he's going to do it!! Same thing with micro-chipping. If they want your dog, they're going to take it!! Having them chipped, is kind of like just one more precaution that I am willing to do! ALL of mine are chipped. I have 6 right now. It's only about $35.00, and it gives me just a little more piece of mind. JMO Suz |
Well my boy is chipped...but like suz said...if they want your dog they will find any way to get it..but its just for us humans to have a better mind about security for out pets....but i think it is a good idea..cause there some honest people out there that will give your pet back but then there are others that if you dog is just the cutiest thing to them and they gotta have (seeing it walking on the sidewalk alone..no parent) they will keep it! But hey i say get it for pet...it will help in the long run.... I got it free for my boy...he won a contest :p (best kisser) :p and got a free one! Good Luck! |
I'm thinking about getting mine microchipped also. Reading other posts of people who's dogs got lost then others tried to "steal" them once they were found really freaks me out! If someone ever took my dog and refused to give them back, it would at least prove that the dog was mine... |
Thieves aside, collars fall off all the time and dogs can run away. If you're on vacation with your dog or out of town, you may not be around to follow up on the classified ads. I think microchips are a good idea. They give you one more chance. |
I had every intention of having mine microchipped and then read somewhere on this site that studies are beginning to show it causes tumors around the site of the chip. Any feedback? |

I definitely plan on having Chewie microchipped. I think microchips are well worth the investment, which is quite nominal. Our previous dog was a springer spaniel escape artist. No matter what we did, he managed to escape from our yard--he was a house dog that loved to go outside to play. Any way, having the microchip was a life saver. He was returned to us every time because someone called the number on the tag or he was taken to the shelter or a vet's office and they found us through the microchip information. I think with the chips, the benefits far outweigh the side effects. My father, a veterinarian himself, agrees.  |
I had Piccolo michrochipped when he was neutered. It was done 4 months ago and the chip is sort of moving a little bit. I asked my vet about it and she said it's normal. Hmmm....I don't like it at all. Has anybody else noticed the same thing ? |

I was ready to have my 3 microchipped and then found out that there was NOT a microchip reader in the county. Animal control did not have one, the rescue did not have one. No one had a reader!!! That was in a lakeshore vacation community with thousands of people from out of town and out of state (mostly Illinois) visiting every year!! Where's the logic in that? I would check with your local animal control/rescue's and see what brand of chip they can read. |
my girls are chipped, Army rules...but if some one REALLY wants your furbaby and they there chipped.. they can just take the chip out and replace it...they just cut along where the chip is and it pops out and they put another one in... My Groomer here in Germany, told us about this and to watch are dogs REALLY closely BC Germans LOVE small dogs and they will take them, if you are not around....There is also tattooing.. they just tattoo a # in the ear.. I think they can do it other areas as well... I has also heard you can get other things tattooed on your dog besides the #'s but I am not to sure about that... I am not too sure on how the tattooing is done thou... |

This is an unfortunate reality; however, If I recall correctly, Avid will supply any shelter with a scanner if they cannot afford one. Quote:
