How many dogs is too many? My fiancee and I get into this conversation all the time. Each time we get a new furbaby he says... I think we have our hands full as it is.. then he changes his mind the MINUTE we have the new pup and says how it was meant to be, hehe. How many pups do you think is too many? We have three right now.. 10 months, 8 months, and 4 months. We got our first yorkie poo then decided we were dog lovers and kept adding on!! I've had bad asthma and allergies all my life and thought that I could never have animals because I'm deathly allergic to big heavy shed dogs like labs and cats. I started taking singulair and claritin once a day and the change is amazing!! No more symptoms! We're talking about getting a yorkie in about 6 months or so to complete the family and he thinks it's too many.. but I feel like once I have a routine set.. whether it's 3 dogs or 6 dogs.. things go smoothly :) Just wondering how you all felt about it :) |
Everyone's limit is different. However, I think this is probably true for most everbody - you don't know where you limit is until you have one too many! |
I think as many as you can handle, as long as they get the time, and attention, the proper care, and medical care they need. It's important for me to be able to give them everything of the best there is. |
Six. I say that because I'm the youngest of six siblings, and I think my parents had adequate time to spend with all of us! If they could do it with humans, they I'd think you could do it with Yorkies! LOL. |

Well that is set by what you can handle. Don't have more dogs than you can offer care and appropriate attention to. As soon as you feel you start neglecting even one thats too much. I think I couldn't handle more than 5 but who knows I only have one now so I couldn't say.:animal36 |

Well we have 5. 1 yorkie, 2 toy poodles, 1 jack russell/daschund mix, and my husbands police dog a german short hair pointer (he's a drug dog). It gets a little crazy at times, but I wouldn't want it any other way. I read in our local paper the other day that the SPCA has been going into peoples homes, and if you had 4-5 dogs or cats they are calling it animal hording, and puling the animals out. Is that the most absurd thing you have ever heard of. My dogs are very well taken care of. I would like to see them try to take my baby's. No way! I have friends that think we are crazy, because the are al inside dogs, but I didn't get my dogs to live outside, they are like my kids, I want them inside with me:animal36 |

I have 2 but I would love to have another. My husband is keeping me in line on this tho. I know the medical costs could be a lot when they get older. We recently had 3 elderly dogs that were all sick at the same time. One had cushings, one had thyroid disease and one had heart disease. All 3 needed really expensive meds every day for 3 yrs. The tests and meds were so expensive. Also, when we travel we have been lucky to find some places to stay that will allow 2 dogs, but my husband said he thinks it will be hard to find a place to take 3. We will never travel again without our dogs because we have had bad experiences leaving our dogs at kennels. One that was at a very expensive pet hotel in a "suite" was almost dead when we got home. She barely made it. No one called to tell us she wouldn't eat and she was so weak when we got home she couldn't stand up or even open her eyes. Never again. That's just us tho. I know a lot of people won't have these problems. |
I have two. I want one more and then that is enough for me. I dont know how people afford the vet care when they have 5 yorkies or more |
It gets a little hectic when you are outnumbered, lol. We have 3 dogs and I imagine I will always have 3. I'd probobly have more than 3 if I could but I really dont need more than 3, its really hard to keep the house picked up all the time and going on vacation and finding someone to watch the girls can be tough. |
I have 4 and for some reason it made a big difference going from 3 to 4 dogs. It is so much harder to walk 4 than 3 for some reason. I also feel like I don't give the older girls as much attention as they would like. The younger yorkies are just so much more demanding of my attention. I hope as they get a little older they won't require as much play time and I will have more time for the girls. Feeling guilty mommy! |
we have 2 yorkies we are looking for#3 right now. we rent our house our landlord is fine with us having little dogs but we do have to pay 10 more dollar a month for each dog we get. so whenever hubby get sick of paying $10.00 for each dog than he will say no more dogs but i dont think that happen any time soon:) |
I have one but am looking for another Yorkie. My daughter lives in my tenant apartment which is small and she has 3....2 chi's and a shihtzu and she's looking to get a big dog now. I think she's nuts because she just doesn't have the room, she works and doesn't walk her dogs. They use a very large weewee pad but these dogs are small. She doesn't understand that a large dog needs to get walked daily and cannot go on a weewee pad. As it is, her apartment doesn't smell too cute when she gets home at night! I'm glad mine goes outside.:D |
