I Made the pups a new carseat! 4 Attachment(s) I had an Outward Hound carseat for Topher, but it was too small for him and his new sister so instead of trying to find a new bigger one (they don't sell them in my city), I decided to make one. It turned out well, considering it's made from a Rubbermaid container, foam and fabric. I don't have the straps in yet that will attach to their harnesses...we'll put them in tomorrow. It has holes in the back for the seatbelt to go through (under the fabric). All of the fabric covers are removable and washable and all of the foam is covered with waterproof covers underneath the fabric. In case of an accident, everything can be washed. They love it and have spent most of the evening playing and sleeping in it. |

Great job! Your kiddos are just beautiful too might I add! :) |
First, I love your furbabies!! Soooooooooo Adorable!!! You did a wonderful job on your carseat. I travel back home to PA alot and need to make something for my three babies. However, they seem to be quite happy with their daddy driving and me sleeping in the back seat with them laying all over me :D Yes I know so unsafe :( Need to get going on my carseat, LOL!!! Thanks for sharing :) |
Great job on the seat! Sounds like you put a lot of time and effort into it. ! (Your furbabies are adorable, too)   |
Nice job! I'm so jealous of creative people. Looks like there's room enough for another Yorkie, though! Maybe 3! |
It looks so lush and comfy.. great job! And your pups are too cute :) |

You did a great job on the carseat for them. Love the pictures. They are such a perfect pair. :aimeeyork hugs. |
Jeanie, yes they certainly are the perfect pair....just like Mutt and Jeff...lol. It looks like they will always have this big difference in size but they sure do love one another! We're going on a little road trip today to Elliot lake to pick up our daughter who's been staying with a friend. It's a two and a half hour drive each way so it should be interesting to see how the pup's do in the seat. |
That's awesome!!! Your babies are adorable and I LOVE that sleeping pic! Would you mind telling us how you did it (the straps for the seatbelt and how you plan to add the harness connectors) I'm in desperate need of a carseat for my two (lugging Bernie's crate to the car everytime is NOT the best solution) and don't want to spend the $138 for a two doggie seat. |
Well, we used a soldering gun to melt the holes in the container. Hubby took the container out to the van to figure out where to place the holes and we made sure that the holes were big enough for the seatbelt to fit through. I allowed for the fabric on the back to flap up so we could put the seatbelt through easily. For the harnesses we just melted holes in the back (and I buttonholed the fabric). We bought leashes at the dollar store and cut them to the desired length and used them to attach to the pup's harnesses. We put the holes in the container close to the top rim and looped the leashes through the holes and over the top. Goodness it's so difficult to describe. When we get home from our trip today I'll take pictures for you. Pictures are so much easier than trying to describe it! lol For the front of the container, I folded over a strip of foam down the length of the front rim and tied it down with tie straps. I melted holes in the container with the soldering gun to put the tie straps through. I wanted the pups to have something comfy to rest their chins on. I will take pictures later and will help you as much as I can. It was a fun project and really didn't take long. The most difficult part was sewing the cover. Trying to pin the fabric so that it was even was a bit difficult. |
