Looking into getting a Yorkie! Hey everybody. My family is looking into purchasing a Yorkshire Terrier or possibly a mix with 1/2 Yorkie within the next 4 months or so. :) I have a few questions. Our family has never had a dog before. Is the Yorkie an okay breed to start with? I'm not a fan of the long hair.. but I love the puppies and they're appearance. Are there any dangers (would get cold easier, etc.) to keeping your dog at a puppy cut for it's whole life? I read that they don't shed a lot. Is this true? Any other advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. We're still looking into other breeds, but the Yorkie is certainly number one at the moment. |
I haven't ever heard that is dangerous to keep their hair short. I am planning on keeping mine in a puppy cut and letting it grow out just alittle for the shaggy look. You are correct they don't shed. All I can tell you is they are a great breed of dogs. They are affectionate, loyal, sometimes demanding, happy go lucky kind of dogs. Best of luck in finding a puppy. |
Thanks so much for the quick reply. |
Welcome to YT. I could not possibly say anything negative towards the Yorkie breed. They are awesome!! They do thrive on plenty of attention and I personally love their neediness. The puppy cut is a great cut for them and causes no danger. Of course any breed you would not want outside in the elements unprotected. But a puppy cut is easier to maintain then the long full growth coat. There affection towards their owners is so very loyal and loving. I wish you the best in finding the perfect breed for you and your family. |
