1st Heat...what to look for Okay my baby Gia is almost 9 months, I wanted to get her fixed (spray or neuter I get them mixed up) in November but because she came down with demodex really bad I had to wait until she had two negative scrapings back to back before I could do anything. Well here it is Feb and I'm noticing her nipples are protruding and her vagina kind of looks swollen. I have an appointment scheduled for Tuesday the 6th (Thank God) My question is: What are signs as far as behavior to start looking for right before the first heat? I noticed she's not eating as much, and she's not active like she usually is. I don't know if I'm just looking into things to much. All I know is I hope she can hold out until Tuesday because if she's in heat it?s an additional 150.00 on top of the already 350.00 |
Uh oh! Better let the vet know, it sounds like heat to me. My vet won't spay if they're in heat or anywhere close. Good luck, and good job getting rid of the demodex, I've heard that it's SO hard to do! |
Oh yes, that's heat. |

I just hope she can hold out until Tuesday The demodex took a lot out of her, but she's a strong little pup. She started treatment Sept. and didn't finish until Dec, but she pulled through it I'm just keeping my fingers crossed |
oh thats a definate, its heat. I hope all goes well at the vets for you. I'll say a little prayer. |

Update Well Gia was sprayed Tuesday (I think that's the right one). She came through well, the first night she was in so much pain it broke my heart to hera her cry. They shaved her again (just on the belly & her arm for the IV), she just had a hair cut when I took her to get groomed a few weeks back , she was so uneven before that because they had cut her hair so she could get her dips for thehe demodex . I'll be so happy when her hair can finally grow long again. She also had two baby teeth left those were pulled also. She wasn't in heat yet but she was very close. I just found out that she needs two more shots for kennel cough & lime disease, so when we bring her back in 10 days for them to take out the stitches she'll be getting those shots. The vet is just concerned about her weight she's only 3.0 pounds at 9 months, (I thought she was bigger than that). So the doctor wants to see if she can at least put on a little weight within the next month, so she's on a special diet She hates this collar they put on her, but she still looks cute :) |
wow....i am glad she is home with you. |
