Shots need HELP! Max hasn't started getting his shots just yet. He did get the bordetella nasil from the breeder. We go in the 13th of Feb. What vaccinations do I avoid, if I can? I am so worried because he is so small. 1lb 13 oz last week. I read that it is better to wait until 6 months for rabies. I have been to 3 Vets so far with my girls. The one I took Max to last week seemed very knowledgeable on smaller breeds. I just don't want him to get to many at once & end up sick. The last 3 vets I went to were shot happy. Repeating vacs the breeders vet gave. They said they didn't know if they were given or not. It's been a nightmare with Vets. |
vaccinations puppy shots are every 3 weeks until 20 weeks old... rabies is given at 12 weeks old, check your state law, it may be different in florida. DHLPP is the name of the "shots"..... Parvo is very bad in the south... vac is needed after 8 weeks old. Parvo is transmitted between dogs and also may live in the soil for a very long time. Weather doesn't kill the virus... only something specially made to kill it. Your dog can pick it up at the park or your own front yard. Lepto is said to induce vac reactions in small dogs. Lepto is very bad in the south also... carried in urine of other animals (possums, squirrel etc.) you can track it in with your shoes.. You can also get Lepto and diefrom it. I've know other vet techs in this state who have. The rabies vac is very safe... Most vet techs are vaccinated for it...it never gave me a reaction. Talk to your vet... if you aren't happy with yours, maybe someone from your area on this forum can refer one to you. Roxanne in NC |
I just took Lulu to the vet. He recommends shots every 2-3 weeks starting at 8 weeks. He said that if it's given before that it's really a waste being as they have antibodies for immunity from their mom which starts to wear off post weaning. He told me that rabies should be given at 6 months especially with a small one. So that is when Lulu will have hers. I think it's good timing here for me being as it will be getting on early spring and she will then be starting to go potty outside. Hope that this helps. Good luck. |
No shots should be given before 4 months of age. Rabies should not be given till at least 6 months of age. http://dogs-cats-and-more.com/Vets_R...cinations.html http://www.wholisticanimal.com/petvaccinations.html |
