Thanks everybody. As always everyone has been so helpful... I think I'm about to take a good first step. There's a dog show in NYC Feb 9-11, Yorkies on Broadway. It will be a good chance to meet breeders, see pups and learn. |

Hope to see you there!!!! |
I think if you see different show breeders sites and sites in general it will come to you. Also look at their adults. Some puppies have thicker coats that will somewhat curl and those tend to have the thick modified coat. Pure silk pups are usually less attractive when small their hair in thinner but straight. I think you just have to look at dogs day after day and then you will accomplish what you desire.:animal36 |
Mardelin, Which day are you going to be there and I'll see if I can find you... Will anybody else be there?.. I live in NYC so if anyone has any questions, ask away... :) I've never been to a dog show before but would like to meet as many breeders as possible. Is there a particular day/time that will be better to be there than others? |

I'm showing, so I'll be there all 3 days. All 3 days the show starts at 8 in the morning and goes till late afternoon. There are scheduled breaks. The first day is Sweapstakes for YTCA and YTCNY. This is where puppies compete for the best puppy. The 2nd day is Regular Classes for the NY club and 3rd day is YTCA. It's a very fast and intense 3 days of showing and a bit different from an all breed show.....The show is in the Grand Ballroom of the New Yorker (2nd floor). The ring takes up much of the Ballroom with a great deal of space taken up for grooming. There is seating, but I would recommend you come early for a good seat. What do you mean will anybody else be there. You will be able to see some of the top yorkies in the country and be able to meet some of the most reputable show breeders from several countries. Just a bit of advice, since you've never been to a dog show and this is the National Yorkshire Terrier Show....breeders will be very happy to answer your questions after they've been in the ring. While they are grooming and preparing their dogs for the ring, they are very preoccupied, please don't mistake this for being rude...it isn't the case, they are just focused in preparing their dog. |
Mardelin, Thank you so much for the valuable information. I'll make it a point to be very sensitive to what the breeders are doing and when. I'm so lucky that I found this show. I literally stumbled on it by accident. By "anyone", I meant fellow YT members who have been so kind and helpful over the last couple of weeks, since I began my search. Hope to see you there. |

The YTCA.org site has some great information on it....the National and upcoming regional show dates are listed on it. Westminister is Monday and Tuesday of the following week. If you have a chance to attend, do so. Some of the top dogs from all over the world will be there, yorkies too. The top 5 from each breed are automatically invited. The rest though Champions, must submit their entries in hopes they are one of the lucky few that are accepted. |
