Distemper Shot Problem Hi there! I got my second yorkie last night, Johnny Walker, and he had his first shot today at my vet. She gave him it in his leg and now he won't walk on it and is just sleeping. I don't remember ever seeing any vaccines going into a leg - I thought they always were on the back of their necks! I'm a little worried, but I know he is probably lethargic from the shot - he also got kennel cough and a worming. I called the vet and she said that he should be okay, just look out for any swelling or vomiting. Nothing yet, thank god. Has anyone had experience with this? Thanks!!! |
My husband just took him back over to the vets. Hope everything will be okay:( |
i can't really offer you any info, but im hoping for the best for your little guy keep us posted |
I hope he will be okay. I have never heard of them giving the shot in the leg before. Keep us posted |
Thanks! The vet sent him home and said he would be sore and tired for a day or so. He's not interested in eating so I'm giving him Nutri-Cal and some water. My other yorkie is so sad - she sits by the crate and cries :( |
Our little furbaby had a reaction to her shot, especially the kennel cough shot. She threw up and was very very tired. She sneezed a lot the next day. After she threw up, we took her back to the vet and they gave her benedry and a hydrating shot in the shoulder. When she got home she went nuts! She kept trying to scratch her back, whimpered and rolled around in her little crate. It was pitiful. My husband said, he thought it was the water shot in her shoulder blade that was irritating her, so I took her out of her crate and gently massaged the hump where the water shot was. She finally calmed down, got sleepy and went to sleep. My guess is that your puppy's leg hurts from the shot and that's why it won't walk on it. You might try gently massaging the area. When I talked to my breeder about our puppy's reaction a few days later, she said that after the puppies first shot, she gently massaged the shot area which calmed the irritation down. |
