He ate raw chicken This morning I was getting ready to leave for work and I heard Ferdinand smacking his lips on something. He had pulled a piece of RAW chicken out of the garbage can from dinner last night (my boyfriend put it in the garbage). I started freaking out because I had no idea how much he ate. He started gagging and out came this long strip of raw chicken. Assuming there was more in his belly and it could thinking it could seriously harm him, I mixed half hydrogen peroxide with half water and got him to drink it. I learned this mixture of doggy epicac (sp?) in his training class. Good thing we did this because there were two more large pieces of raw chicken that came up. I felt so bad for him that we had to make him sick like that. :( He knows better than to dig in the garbage can, but it's not his fault that there was raw chicken in there. Of course I had a little talk with my bf and told him NO MORE raw meat in the garbage. Does anyone know what raw chicken would do to him? Especially after sitting out (in the garbage can) for 12 hours? I'm assuming dogs can get salmonella too, can't they? |
actually dogs systems can handle eating raw chicken. It does not make them sick like it would us. Ive fed my dogs a raw chicken leg in the past, and Ive read on here plenty of times about people feeding their dogs raw chicken. I was actually grossed out by my sweet adorable boys eating raw meat so I never did it again haha however, I don't know how good 12 hours in the garbage raw chicken is for any living thing :) |

Many, many people feed their dogs and cats RAW as a regular diet. I agree that it is time to secure the trash can, however: to save him from getting hold of cooked chicken bones - which can harm him. Canines' digestive systems are equipped to digest RAW bones, but COOKED bones can splinter, and tear them up. |
