YAY! :D  |
24 Hrs after the Surgey Wow, Cricket is still really groggy and out of it. :dogsm6:Yesterday around 7pm she vomited 3 times in a row. I called the vet and they said this was normal following anesthesia, she hasn't eaten any of her food yet but as of a couple of hours ago has really started to drink. I gave her a little pain pill this morning and her antibiotic as directed by the vet, I concealed it in a little bit of cheesy mett. She devoured it, so I guess she has a little something in her tum-tum. I didn't expect her to still be so "out of sorts" she also seems like she's quite sore...she can hardly bend over to clean her twinkle after she goes potty. I feel so sorry for her! They (the vet techs) said to expect this for 2-3 days following the surgery so it seems to be in the realm of what's normal. I appreciate everyones well wishes and any other recovery stories would be great, does this seem normal to you guys? Take Care, :ghug: |
Blood Sugar with No Food Allowed. The VET says no food or water after 9 PM the night before SPAY. The blood sugar worries me now. Is it safe to give NutriCal in the morning before taking her to the VET?????? |
Sorry, I could not edit my post, please let us know how your little one is doing. :aimeeyork |
Cricket is doing well and is back to 100% for the most part. I say for the most part because she also had her little hernia situation repaired while they were doing the spay, and there is a tiny bit of swelling there. I called the vet yesterday and they said it was normal for a bit of fluid to collect internally there around the wounds interior (it's not seeping or anything) they said that would last about 5 days or so and was just part of the healing process for some doggies. It was minimal to begin with (I have a problem with overreacting) and now it's barely there. My vet told me to withhold food & water too, they said 8pm, but her surgery was going to be between 12pm-and 3pm so I left her water out til 11pm. It is my understanding that the need to withhold food & water is because they don't want the dog aspirating or regurgitating while they are under and possibly choking. I know at my vet if the dog is under 5lbs they automatically do an IV to keep them hydrated and what not, my dog is 10lbs so that wasn't necassary for her. I think the smaller they are the more concern, my sister has a 4lb Pom and it's aways a big deal for him to get anesthesia, he just had a teeth cleaning and had a little problem, but he's fine now. I wouldn't give the dog anything before hand without asking the vet. |
