He gave me a heart attack.... Last night I woke up with such a fright. I thought Alex had stopped breathing. My heart was racing and so I woke him up. He was quite perturbed that I had woken him up out of such a slumber some sleep. When he sleeps his breath is so shallow you can’t really feel it. I have been scared like this so many times I can’t even count them. Does anyone else have this problem?? |
I am so glad Alex is ok and all...I've never noticed Schatzie not moving when she breaths but if I don't see her move I can usually hear her snore so have not worried too much. |
Oh! I hope he is ok. Jane does that sometimes. It scares me to death. Jane has had a little breathing problem since she was a puppy. And I called the vet one day and he said that it would go away...Yeah right! That was about 6 years ago and Jane still has breathing problems! |
 Thought we were the only ones! Toto does that and scares us spitless! Lots of nights I wake her & boy does it make her grumpy!! :) I constantly reach over during the night to check on her & usually Patrick's hand is already on her! ;) It's so frightening ... guess she is just a sound sleeper ... I on the other hand wouldn't know what to think if I slept through one single night!! |
He is ok...he just sleeps so softly or soundly or whatever :P I am glad we aren't the only ones. I am constantly check on him through the night. Guess it is preparing me for motherhood some day ;) |
After I finally get off this site at some late hour, I think I just become dead to the world. Lily gets on my face if she needs me to get up. I have no idea if she has this problem. |
I do this all the time! I wake up and check on Simon and Hallie b/c they are so quiet! I actually prefer when they are snoring so at least I know they are ok! |
What I notice about Sadie that when she is sleeping, she sometimes shakes her leg (usually one only) like she has Parkinsons. Does anyone else have a Yorkie who does this? Kate Quote:

dianne Hi everyone im not sure whether this is a 100% correct but im sure i read somewhere that when a dog sleeps their breathing or heart rate slow right down and the breath really shallow. Ive certainly noticed this with different breeds of dogs to.apparantly dogs go into rem sleep and twitch and make all sorts of noises and its something to do with thier nervous system.but ill run it past my vet and post again with some info. :) dianne :) |
:D Nope... everyone in my household snores except for me! The littlest one is the loudest. Man, that would be scary though. |
Oh yea! There have been times, especially with my very first yorkie, years ago, that I actually had picked him up and he hung limp and I thought he was dead! Then he would open his eyes, and give me that "what are you bothering me about" look! Then I would give him lots of kisses and let him go back to sleep. I think it is just normal ...Theresa & The Boys :aimeeyork |
Mia has no breathing problems, but for some reason I wake up in the middle of the night and think she's not breathing. So I wake her up and she just looks at me like : Mom, you're doing it again, let me sleep. I'm just paranoid I guess. I don't think I've ever had one night's sleep without waking up at night. And when I do wake up to go to the bathroom, I have to turn on the light in our bedroom when I go back to bed to make sure Mia didn't sneak into my spot (she's been doing that lately) :) Do I disturb her? Of course not, even if she's on my pillow. Sometimes she takes half of the bed and my husband and I have the other half. I think we'll have to upgrade to a king size bed soon!! |
Kellie sleeps so tight that I can move from one place to another , she will never wake up . She never move . Really thinking she might have a problem , I went to the vet . She is healthy . |

Lol... The same with Alex he takes up so much of the bed that you would think he is a great dane....lol... Well, I am glad I am not the only one worried about their breathing and catching on them constantly. I guess it makes sense that their breathing goes shallow. After all, so does all of ours when we sleep. At least they are healthy :D |

I have had this happen to, scares me so bad. I will move them pick them up and be freaking out thinking my baby has passed on while sleeping with us. I go into total apnic mode, and then she finally wakes up and lifts and eyebrow as if to say... are you done yet, I was sleeping here. |
