Meghan's Misbehavin' Help....anyone....everyone.....my little girl is 11 weeks old....bites everything....and her little teeth are like needles.....I know she's teething, but I have bought every chew toy in the store....she rips the newspaper into little bits, then the chase is on to get the pieces out of her mouth. I'm so afraid she will choke on them. Any suggestions? Also...she willingly goes into her crate at night, but barks me awake 2-3 hours later...I let her out...she pees on the pee-pee pad, but if I put her back in the crate....its hells bells.....sooooooo....naturally she comes into bed with me and we both sleep till 6 a.m. How long can an 11 week old stay in the crate without it being stressful on her? AND.....when oh when does this teething thing settle down? Any answers gratefully appreciated. KatnBob |
I think they stop teething around 11 months, or so was the case with Dennis, and Sahara is now 8 months and still teething; infact she just ate my telephone wire yesterday! You just have to give them lots of appropriate chewing items, and puppy proof the place. Also I am afraid to tell you this, but you take them to bed once and don’t expect to get them back into the cage again, at least not quietly! Mine both sleep with me, Sahara sleeps in the crook of my neck and Dennis right beneath or under the covers. |
Hoo boy, I sure can sympathize since Hoku is the same age. I give her something to chew on whenever she needs to chew. I do not allow her to bite me even a tiny bit - I 'yelp' and if she continues then I 'scruff' her very gently on the neck and she immediately stops. As for sleeping in the crate, I stick my fingers through the wires but I don't give in to her crying if I know she's already gone potty. She had a rough first week but is getting better and now realizes she has to stay in there at night and when I'm at work. I'm sure other people have great advice, this is just what works for me right now:) |

ya.. it takes long time until they stop teething.. I know how you feel :) |
She needs to be either in a play pen or doggie fence, with toys and chewy's. Hold her on the sofa with you in the evening when you watch TV and give her something to chew on. If she tries to bite something she shouldn't, then distract her and give her a chew or toy. Be persistant. |
