What Exactly is a "Pet Quality Yorkie???" After having a much-heated debate with one of my neighbors who proudly informed me that my yorkies were "no good" because they were CKC registered and that her AKC registered yorkie that came with a limited contract was "exceptional", and that there is "miles of difference between the two," I have a question for everyone........What is the difference between an AKC registered puppy sold as pet quality with no breeding/showing rights, a CKC registered puppy, and a puppy with no papers at all? Aren't all three of them just "pet quality yorkies." Is there anything different other than the price? Are there different levels of "pet quality yorkies?" IMHO, if you are just getting them for a pet, why not save some money and get a CKC or nonregistered puppy? Can someone explain why they wanted an AKC registered puppy if they can't show or breed it? I thought the whole reason to get an AKC puppy was so that you could show it or breed it. I'm sorry, I'm not trying to offend anyone on here, I'm really just venting. I think my babies make as good a pets as anyone elses. |
A pet quality pup would be a yorkie that somehow doesn't quite meet the standard. Wrong color/type of coat, a bite not quite right, to large/small for breeding, anything like this. Some are closer to the standard than others. There are differences in pet quality, as far as looks go. Not as far as loving goes though. The only reason papers are important to me (as a breeder) is places like CKC will take anyone's word that they have a purebred yorkie and paper it. Thus you may think your getting a Yorkie but maybe your really not. They only have to send in a picture and a couple signatures to get papers. There is no reason for you as a pet owner to worry about the papers. You love your pets and that's all that matters, no matter what anyone else thinks. :) |
Real nice neighbor you have Hercules is CKC so what. I could care less if he was not registered. I love him. I would not take anything for him. If he wasnt't registered, that would be alright. This person sounds like they are real insecure. Smile and just walk away. I'm telling you that but I would have probably had a come apart. Don't you talk about my baby. LOL :p |
Herks Mom HerksMom, LOL. That is exactly what I was thinking--I'm not going to let you talk about my babies like that -- how dare you! It's funny I felt as protective over them as if someone would've said something about my children. I wish I could say I acted like a lady and smiled and walked away, unfortunately the lady in me was on vacation today. LOL At least she lives 5 houses down and I don't have to see her everyday! :D Quote:

Good venting tarawood. I agree. Maggie is Univeral Kennel Club registered, or UKC. Does that make her world wide special? She is special to me and that's all I care about. |
pup Ever notice how some people need to put down others to make themselves feel good? We have all had many thoughts we should not share with others..why hurt them? I have placed a number of pups are pets that could be shown and finished..no doubt many have...anyway the term show quality is too easily used..a true show quality Yorkie is one who goes in the ring and WINS. Simply looking good enough to show doesn't cut it for me....more to a champion then a pretty face, etc |
You really can't pay any attention to people like that! They are obviously unhappy and insecure and need to tear others down in order to feel good about themselves. You know that your puppies are priceless to you and that's all that matters. For her to call them "No good" is just plain mean spirited. The highest award winning yorkie isn't any better as a pet than the one who has nothing else to do but kiss, lick, nuzzle, cuddle, lap sit and play all day in my opinion. Show dogs and the outward appearance mean nothing when it comes to the qualities a pet should possess. Temperament and having fun are what's important. |
It's such a shame some people feel the need to put others down to make themselves feel better... Tarawood - That lady is so rude! Hopefully you wont run into her anymore, you shouldn't have to listen to her b.s. Both my yorkies came with their AKC papers but I have not registered them and I am not going to. Having the AKC title means nothing to me since I am not going to breed them or show them, I dont feel the need to send in my money just to have the AKC title. They are my babies and mean the world to me AKC or not. You have beautiful, healthy, happy yorkies!! Maybe all she has going for her is the AKC title lol :p |
I've never registered my AKC puppies either. Since I don't plan on breeding them I don't see the point. That woman sounds like a jerk! |
Your neighbor is laughable Your neighbor is so insecure, she needs to gain status through her pets. Think about that for a moment. It's so ridiculous, it's laughable. My yorkies came with CKC papers, and I never even registered them. My little Pookie looks exactly like the breed standard, by my little Boo Boo doesn't. As long as they're happy and healthy, that's all that matters. |
