Puppy shedding? I know adult Yorkies don't shed. But is it common for the puppies to shed? Riley is shedding like crazy. I've read here that the "balding" is pretty common. I wish her head would stay fluffy like her body! Penny is pretty thin on top, though. Anyway, if you have experiences to share here I would sure appreciate it. We got Penny at 5 mos. so we didn't go through this with her. |
yorkies do not shed at all ive never heard of yorkies balding |
Piper was shedding when we 1st got her, because of poor nutrition. We took her to the vet after we got her from the breeder & found this out. |
there are some genetic disorders that cause hairloss in yorkies but they should not shed.definatly call your vet about this. |
Jewels lost hair when she was a pup. They checked her for mites and allergies but found nothing with her. The one time Chachi lost hair it was due to mites. Have your dog checked by a vet |
Appt in the morning with our vet. I sure hope nothing is wrong. :( |

Took Riley to our vet today... no real news to share. He didn't see any signs of fleas, lesions, ringworm, etc. The tests we could run are a fungal culture and a skin scrape to check for mites. There is a possibility her shedding is from her not eating well until just this week. The hair loss on just the one side on the top of her head is perplexing. She does rub that spot on the bottom of the chair once or twice a day. So, at this point we are just going to monitor her. If it keeps thinning, we will run the tests. She has an appt in just over a week for her next distemper shot so we'll check again then. |
I would definitely have her checked for mites just to rule it out. They just take a scraping of her skin and check it under a microscope |
I hope everything gets better. |
Good luck with your baby. Are you keeping a topknot in that could be breaking the hair on top. I try to keep Little Bit's hair up but she tries so hard (& usually succeeds) to get it out that I know she is probably breaking her hair off if not pulling it out. |
