Weird question - can the rocket (wee wee) NEVER go back in? I'm actually posting this for my friend who has a 3lb one year old yorkie (neutered). When he gets "excited" his rocket comes out and stays out for usually 1/2 hour - which I thought was pretty long considering that Zoe's never came out at all. Anyway, he got "Excited" last night and his rocket NEVER went back in...even until now. She called the vet and made the first appointment tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone ever experienced this. SHe also told me that her aunt has a dog (not a yorkie) whose rocket NEVER went back in since he was neutered THREE YEARS AGO. Can this happen and more importantly, is this healthy? Thanks! |
poor baby i hope it goes back in i would think if not they would do some type of surgery to make it go back in |
His "rocket" got dry before going back in, have her sit him in a warm bath for about 15 mins that should do it to soften the skin and it will go back by itself. |
I was told by an ER Vet that if it didn't go back in within 30-45 minutes they should be taken in to the Vet or ER. |
penis problem She should take a cold washcloth and hold it on him..the penis will "deflate" faster and make sure it goes completely in the sheath. sometimes the tip will remain out side and swell, making it painful. |
I've always called it "lipstick", and if it doesn't go back in just a few minutes it can cause infection of the urinary track. |
My girlfriend had a cocker spaniel whose "rocket" was out most of the time. |
She definitely needs to try to get his rocket back in. The water thing is good along with trying to "gently" minipulate it back in. It becomes dry, will swell, and can cause serious problems. |
If it stays out too long it could be that it is swelling and the circulation is being cut off. This can cause real problems for him requiring surgery. The best thing to do is use KY Jelly or even Vaseline to lubricate it and work it back in. Usually all you will have to do is pull the sheath (skin) back up over it. If she can't get it in she needs to call a vet right away, not wait until tomorrow. Good luck! |

When the dog has an erection ("lipstick" or "rocket") that won't reduce it's a condition called priapism. This can be a medical emergency because the penis can become necrotic (the tissue dies) requiring amputation. Most of the time it's caused by hair around the tip that gets caught and won't allow it to reduce. KY Jelly or vaseline around the tip will help it to reduce, then trim the hair! If it still won't reduce then get to a vet asap. |
When I was in my early teens, this happened to my poodle. He started to yelp so I got some vaseline and helped him cover it back up. Poor baby! I hope he gets it back without any pain. |
