introduction not going so well...please HELP!!! Hi guys, just had a quick question to anyone out there that can help me. I just got another yorkie named Madison who is now 9weeks old, Sebastian my other yorkie (17months) however plays quite aggressively with her. It has been nearly 2 weeks now and all they do is fight with each other. Madison is quite dominating however and goes back for more, she hangs on to the hair on his beard and he grabs her neck, i'm not sure if this is play or are they actually fighting...there is no yelping though. Just wondering if anyone else has had these problems, and how long it will took until they played nicely together?!? Please HELP.....:) |
Welcome to YT, and congrats on your new baby. I'm sorry i can't help, but i know there are people here that will give you good advice. We would love to see pics of your fur kids :) |
I have cats and they run from Grayson, so I really can't help either, but hopefully someone can! Welcome to YT;) |
As long as no one is yelping or growling my guess is they're just playing. I wouldn't leave them alone though until the little one is old enough to hold her own. Do they eat nicely around each other or sleep side by side? If they do that's a good sign that they've formed a comradity. |
My two play fight about half the day and cuddle up with me, hubby, or themselves the other half. Sometimes I worry they get too carried away and I do holler "Settle" every once in a while to get them to settle down. I hear an occasional yelp with these two, usually from my male. My Jack Russell will join in sometimes and she is so gentle with them I can't believe it. Unless they are snarling, yelping in pain, or you see wounds, I would not worry. This is how they play. |
Mine play fight for most of the day too. My girl comes back for more all the time but I do have to stop them when I hear them getting nasty with eachother. I sit them on my lap and make them give eachother kisses:D and tell them NO, not nice. 15 mins later they are back at it again but I do know they love eachother and cannot live without eachother...guess they get on eachothers nerves every once in a while and plus Mimi has a hard time sharing. |
Sadie was about 2 1/2 yrs old when I got Lillie. Sadie didn't really play rough with Lillie when she was a puppy but, you could see she would stand over her in a very dominant way. As Lillie got a little bigger Sadie would, from time to time become very aggressive with her...Lillie would cry and I would have to break them up. This has happened about 5 times now. (Sadie is now 3 and Lillie is 7 months) Lillie see's this as play but, I can tell when it's play and when it's Sadie becoming dominant. I spoke with a trainer and she told me to NOT let it happen....When I see Sadie is going to become aggressive I stop it before it happens. Sadie was the only dog for 2 1/2 yrs and thinks she's the boss...YOU have to let your dominant one know that YOU are the boss. I was told this is a behavior that you are not going to be able to stop although, Sadie has gotten better. I would watch them when they are together and tell him no when you see this is going to happen...and then walk away from him...You don't want to scold him then pick him up.... Good Luck! |
Hey guys thanks heaps for your quick replies and advice. It has really helped me alot. It's also nice to see that other people had the same problems because i thought i was the only one!!! :) It's funny though because although my older one is dominant you can tell that the puppy is going to rule the house..haha! Thanks heaps.:aimeeyork |
Are their tails wagging? That's another good indicator. When we introduced my little one to his new friend that we were going to have him stay with, the other dog, Riley, attacked my little guy and growled, snarled etc. It was pretty scary for me, but Rylie's tail was always wagging when he was "attacking" Ferdinand. We still never left them along together, but they were just playing. |
Yes both of their tails are wagging, however when Sebastian gets a bit aggressive we separate them for a while. Suprisingly, they are really good at eating off the same plate and share bones together, so i guess that is a good sign..right:confused: |
I'm sure you're fine then. Your older one is probably just trying to show who's boss and who rules the house. |
I have Peeka my male 9 months old and we just got Daisy she is 13 weeks and they love to play when i let them Daisy gets going on Peeka she grabs his beard to lol and she goes back for more Peeka does kick her with his back legs and gets a little rough but i asked my vet and he said that as long as they are not yelping and can play nice they are ok. Trust me Peeka is bigger than her he is 4 lbs and she is 1 1/2 lbs and she holds her own she is so spunky lol. I think they will be fine it's good they like eachother enough to play. |
Haha that is funny, our dogs sound exactly alike! :) Sebastian always back kicks Madison to LOL. She is also a little pyscho, she jumps on him and holds him down and keeps going back for more. I guess for us though this is probably better because a placid more submissive puppy would not last in this house..haha! Thanks for making me feel better :D |
