Nervous about getting shots after what happened last time Hannah is due her 4th set of shots. She recieved the first before I got her and recieved the 2nd at the breeders vet the day I bought her. She recieved them that morning and I took her home around 1:00 pm. She seemed to do fine, the breeder had given her benadryl though. Well after 3 weeks I took her to my vet and she got her shots....at 3:00am she woke me up whining, she was so restless, she was running around and whining-crying yelping, she didn't want to be held and she didn't want to be let down. I thought she was going to die. The vet told me that day that the shots would make her feel really bad. I had given her benadyl after her shots. Then that night I gave her some more and she finally went back to sleep, she slept between my husband and I that night and we watched her all night. The next day she just didn't act her normal self, she just layed around and didn't eat much. Is this normal??? Has anyone else went though this? It makes me not want to get the 4th set of shots. I am so scared that something bad might happen this time. I don't think it was an allergic reaction. There was no redness or swelling, but there was a knot on her back for about a week. Should I get the shots or not????   |
Please talk to your vet about your concerns. Ask them if an injection of Benedryl before they give the shots would help. I had a pup that would have reactions to his puppy shots and the Benedryl shot would help him. A lump after the shot is common, so is feeling droopy the next day. That's alot of vaccination for such a small body. You are asking good questions, it means that you're alert to your baby's reactions. |

My vet also told me that many time reactions are caused from using a too small needle and having to force it in. This causes inflammation at the injection site, which then allows histamine to enter and mix with the vaccine. She said that for anything that has caused a reaction in the past, they can start a preventative anti-inflammatory a couple days before as well. I would ask about that as well. Please also make sure she is only getting one injection per visit.... |
Brissy slept for two days after her first shots. She is due for her next set on Thursday and I'm very apprehensive. |
Hannah may do just fine. My Jewels had a reaction just like you described after her 3rd set of shots. I was really nervous about getting her next set of shots but she didnt have a reaction and hasnt had one since so you never know |
Cali had a reaction to the first set of shot I had to get her so after that the vet gave her an oral pain killer after hher next shot and she was fine. Good luck |
My furbaby is a fiasco!!  She's got a lump where she was shot, and got a little droopy during that day... but for 1 whole week she would not let me touch the lump, and made such a big deal of it...  This happened in all 4 shots...:p I still didn't give her the rabies shot... and I'm not sure if I will... Still thinking about it... Katiuscia & Maggie :hearts-xx |
To me, that puppy seemed to have way too many shots in such a short time. Mine get the initial puppy shots then a Rabies at 4 months. They are 2 years old and have not had additional shots. When they are 5 or 6 I will have the titiers run on them to see if they are still protected. Find your baby a Holistic Vet. http://www.wholisticanimal.com/petvaccinations.html |

No you want to get the shots in consecutive order or they become inactive |
